Looking for an activity that gets the kids off screens, into the outdoors, and learning real-life skills while having a blast? Scouts might be just what you’re after.

With programs for kids aged 5 to 25, Scouts is all about adventure, connection, and personal growth, and it’s been part of South Aussie life for more than 100 years. Whether your child is a born explorer or just needs a little confidence boost, Scouts is a fun, safe, and supportive space where they can grow and thrive.

What Is Scouts All About?

Forget what you think you know about Scouts; this is more than just knots and campfires. Scouts is a hands-on, youth-led program where kids learn by doing. That might be setting up a tent in the bush, planning a group project, navigating on a hike, or helping out in the local community.

It’s about giving kids a chance to try new things, build confidence, and discover what they’re capable of.

What Do Kids Get Out of it?

Confidence & Resilience
Scouts encourages kids to take on challenges and try things they’ve never done before, all in a supportive environment. It’s the perfect place to learn that it’s okay to make mistakes and that persistence pays off.

Real-Life Skills
From first aid and cooking to basic navigation and leadership, Scouts teaches practical skills that’ll come in handy for years to come. It’s learning disguised as fun.

Connection to Community & Nature
Scouts helps kids build a connection with their community and the natural world. Whether they’re planting trees, running a sausage sizzle, or camping under the stars, they’re learning to care about more than just themselves.

Teamwork & Leadership
Working in teams, taking turns leading, and learning to support others, it’s all part of the program. These social skills are a huge bonus in both school life and beyond.

Fun & Friendships
From games and obstacle courses to overnight camps and big events with Scouts from all over the country, it’s safe to say your child won’t be bored. And with regular weekly meetings, they’ll build great friendships along the way.

It’s for Everyone

Scouts is open to all children and young people, and there’s a section to suit every age; from Joey Scouts (5 – 8) to Rover Scouts (18 – 25). Trained volunteer leaders guide the kids through each stage, with a focus on safety, inclusion, and fun.

Keen to Give It a Go?

There are Scout Groups all over South Australia, so there’s probably one not far from you. Whether your child wants to join or you’re thinking about volunteering yourself, it’s a great way to be part of a supportive, welcoming community.
