The Breakwater Beach Club at North Haven Surf Life Saving Club is a standout spot for families looking for an easy, relaxed bite tite to eat by the sea. With heaps of parking and a laid-back coastal feel, it’s perfect for everything from breakfast dates to casual dinners. Opening hours are super family-friendly too: Wednesday 9am till late, Thursday 9am till late (hello 5pm quiz night!), Friday and Saturday 8am till late, and Sunday 8am till 6pm. It’s the kind of place you can drop into without overthinking, sandy shoes and all and expect some great value for money.
Inside, there’s loads of flexible seating to suit families of all sizes, including big round tables for groups, booths, standard tables, a large bar and a big screen projector. High chairs are available, and there’s even a small indoor kids’ play area with train sets, a play kitchen, games, Uno and colouring (pencils and paper supplied, yes please!) Outside is a dream for kids, with shaded seating, a huge grassed area to burn off energy, a basketball ring and an old rowing boat that’s perfect for imaginative play while parents actually get to sit and relax.
The menu seals the deal for families. There’s a kids menu for $15 including a pop-top juice, with the pasta with sauce being a clear favourite in our crew, fresh, simple and absolutely devoured. The bruschetta and fresh salads were also big winners, and grown-ups will love the fun cocktail list, especially the new Algae Bloom cocktail with its sea-foam look and delicious taste. Add in a gelato bar for dessert and you’ve got a beachside family meal that’s easy, fun and totally kid-approved.

We love when councils and designers think outside the box to create imaginative play areas for the kids. This one is the talented work of local business Iguana Creative. With toilets, shelter, BBQ plus the existing basketball and other facilities, this is a brilliant beach side spot. The new playground includes; Climbable soft serve ice cream cup with slide Inclusive mound slide Accessible trampolines Climbing tower with large tunnel slide Two swing sets Cherry sculptures Alternative communication boards Informative and sensory ice cream sculptures Ice cream scoop with monkey bars Banana split themed inclusive see-saw Accessible carousel Rubber soft fall ditch with domed climbing net Picnic setting.
First thing you notice when you pull up to this reserve is the brightly coloured modern play equipment along with the huge grassed area. Whilst the play equipment isn’t huge it has been well thought out to cater for a few different ages. The toddlers and smaller children can enjoy the swings which include a baby swing, slippery dip, bouncy ladybird and small climbing wall. The bigger kids can use the giant climbing spider web that sits a little away from the the play equipment or even enjoy a game of noughts and crosses which can be found on the play equipment. Once everyone has had enough of the equipment there is plenty of grassed area to run around on, kick balls or just enjoy a family picnic . There is also a tennis court as part of the Golflands reserve. Whilst the area near the play equipment has a fence the entire reserve isn’t totally fenced off. Unfortunately there is no shade over the play equipment but several trees you could utilise to sit under for shade if you stopped for a picnic or BBQ . In need of a coffee .. closest would be Mc Café on…
