Macaulay Culkin is forgotten by his family and forced to battle a couple of silly thieves (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) around Christmas in this enduring children’s adventure which starts off at his home in Part 1 and then letting loose with no rules and then running wild in the Posh Plaza Hotel in New York City in Part II

Jingle All the Way (1996)
Arnold Schwarzenegger vs a crowded shopping mall ( think Rundle Mall – Christmas Eve). This family comedy is desperate to get the last Turn Man Action figure on Christmas Eve – even if it means fighting Santa with a candy cane. A mix of Christmas spirit, action hero and fun viewing and laughing for all ages !

The Santa Claus (1994)
When dad becomes Santa Claus after accidently killing Santa Claus! Dad and Son are magically transported to the North Pole, where an elf explains that Scott must take Santa’s place before the next Christmas arrives. Scott (the Dad) thinks he’s dreaming, but over the next several months he gains weight and grows an inexplicably white beard. Maybe that night at the North Pole wasn’t a dream after all — and maybe Scott has a lot of work to do.

Elf (2003)
The movie responsible for more memes and GIFS that I can count…. cue one of the funniest movies of all times ; Elf! Buddy (Will Ferrell) was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa’s elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn’t fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father….with increasingly chaotic results.

Red One (2024)
Jump into a high tech Santa world where a team of highly trained security guards (led by the Rock) protect Santa and the North Pole. When Santa is kidnapped, a rescue mission to save Christmas begins! Great fun and time will tell if it will stand up to a yearly Christmas rewatch, but definitely worth a look!

The Christmas Chronicles (2018)
Kurt Russell stars as Santa in this Netflix smash from 2018 (spawned a sequel too) about a couple of kids who accidentally cause Santa’s sleigh to crash, threaten to ruin Christmas until they come up with a cunning plan to save the day. Fabulously made and with a top performance by Russell who puts his own spin on Santa, this one is a sure fire family fave!

Dr. Seuss How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
The curmudgeonly recluse Grinch, who hates Christmas, becomes annoyed with the out-of-control Christmas festivities in Whoville, the town lying below his cave dwelling on Mt. Crumpit. But after the Grinch conspires to deprive the Who’s of their favorite holiday by sneaking into town on Christmas eve to steal everything associated with the holiday, he learns that the spirit of Christmas goes much deeper than tinsel and toys.

Klaus (2019)
One of the best rated Christmas movies by audiences and critics alike over the past 5 years, Klaus tells the animated story of a postman at the north pole who meets a toy maker. A very different feel to the pixar and disney animations which dominate releases, if you didn’t catch this on its original release, lock this one in for your next Christmas movie night!

Arthur Christmas (2011)

Angela’s Christmas (2017)
This beautiful movie is set in 1910s Ireland tells the story of Angela, who snuck off with the baby Jesus from the local nativity, and charts her adventures leading into Christmas. If you are after something totally different, this animated fare will keep you entranced and is a wonderful insight into life in Ireland in that period.
