Every night once the sun goes down, the silos at Wallaroo come alive with a light show for the whole family! So grab the kids, jump in the car and park down by the Jetty to enjoy the show.
The show starts at different times throughout the year, depending on daylight saving. You can check out the start times and info via the Copper Coast Visitor Information website.
There is also different themes for the light show throughout the year, so even if you have been once, make sure you go back again on your next trip for the latest show. Mostly the themes centre around the history, attractions and events in the area. You can tune your car radio to the station as shown on the silo to get the full soundtrack as well – just like at the drive ins!
Make sure you get there a bit early for the countdown to enjoy the stunning sunsets that Wallaroo is famous for!
Find it at: Irwin Street, Wallaroo Located opposite the Wallaroo Town Hall in the centre of town in Irwin Street. This playground was opened in 2015 and includes a large shaded play area for smaller kids with toddler size play equipment, swings diggers etc as well as equipment for older kids including climbing nets and frames, numerous swings and slides, monkey bars, a spinning thing that is apparently called a Supernova? (photo below) two flying foxes and lots more. It's a big space with lots to do. And it's lit for night time play! There's a large picnic shelter with tables and chairs, bench seats, a drink fountain and public toilets just a short walk away. Shops are not far to walk if you need supplies. Two sides of the park edged by roads are fenced off for safety. If you're looking to have a picnic lunch, the local Foodland is walking distance and there's a huge grassed area to enjoy.
Making and building things with your kids (or lets face is 'for' your kids, because they often bail half way through) is rewarding and fun. We recently found a version of this 'hot wheels' style shelf on Pinterest and thought we would give it a go. Not only was it easy, and fun, it was quick and the job was done for under $50. It's a great gift idea or just an excuse for a trip to Bunnings and to spend an hour in the shed, with or with out the kids. Here's what you will need: 1 x Mountain Bike tyre (we picked one up from 99 Bikes for $18) 1 x Pkt of black countersunk timber screws. We used short 16mm and picked them up for about $3 for 45 screws at Big Red Hammer (Bunnings). Depending how many shelves you want to insert, just ensure you have four screws for every shelf. We made ours with 9 shelves, so 36 screws. 2 x 2.4m length of pine that will fit widthways inside your bike tyre. (Is it called pine trim? Pine battening?) You may need more if you have a bigger bike tyre than ours or want…

Mum to an adventurous two year old boy & a six year old who loves the spotlight. I recently rekindled my childhood passion & started dance classes again, so there is lots of lounge room dance-offs in our house. I also work in cellar doors pouring wine tastings – when I’m not partaking myself!
