West Beach Parks has unveiled a $2.9 million community square and play space. A new public square and open space will be developed on the West Beach coastline, providing facilities for community events, recreation and play, nestled among natural vegetation.
Set on the unique coastal precinct of West Beach Parks, Adelaide’s newest community gathering place will include a kiosk, playground, shelter, and other amenities.
The Square at West Beach Parks is being developed and funded by West Beach Parks, supported by a $1.45m State Government grant under the Planning and Development Fund.
Designed by Studio Nine Architects, The Square at West Beach Parks will re-establish the site with natural vegetation and connect the local and broader community to the West Parks precinct.
Construction on the Square will begin this month, with completion expected later this year.
We have officially found our favourite skate park in Adelaide and it's at West Beach Skate and BMX Park (PS - if you know a better one please let us know!). With something to suit just about every level of rider we love that our little beginners can scoot and skate somewhere where they can also watch and learn from those a lot older with awesome skills. Right next to the building that houses the toilets, covered tables and DaKlinic shop is a small skate bowl. With a graduated entrance, even the newest novices can find somewhere to enter and learn some skills. The bowl deepens to an intermediate level and you'll find most of the novice/intermediate skaters and scooters here, including many with great skills just learning new tricks. West Beach Skate and BMX Park also houses a huge half pipe where beginners and experts alike can be found (usually not at the same time though!). There are also a few grind boards and rails spread around the whole park area, with varying degree of difficulty. And just a few metres away is a huge bowl - we have only seen some pretty serious skateboards riding in here on…
Playground and coffee dates have never (ever ever) looked better. Like a good cup of Joe with a side serve of fresh air, exercise and epic playground all in one stop? The kids are going to lose their minds over the good quality simple milkshakes and treats at this place. You are going to love the ample parking, the entertainment factor (um hello exceptionally good playground adjacent at Wigley Reserve), the room to run around, toilets on precinct and the proximity just a stones throw to watch boats come and go from the marina lock! Throw in a really lovely hospitality family who run the show here (and also up the road at the bigger West Beach Eatery) and you have an entire low cost half day outing sorted. Its also the perfect Glenelg meeting point, minus the hustle and bustle of Jetty Road, but close enough if you also want to throw that in the mix! We have continued to call past this top spot over the last couple of years for the consistently good coffee and banter. The kiosk opened in late November 2020 by the talented family also behind local venues West Beach Patisserie & Eatery Fair…
