Alpacas are not scary. There we said it. If you imagine a large, long necked, fluffy dog that you just want to cuddle, you are on the right track. So with that in mind, you must make the quick stop off at Alpacas Chaparral when you are on the Yorke Peninsula with kids to say g’day to Shorty and Dee and have a free look around.

With over 120 Alpacas on site, it is actually really cool to give them a pat, grab a photo or two and watch them have a feed. Plus you won’t find two nicer people to have a chat too than long term locals Shorty and Dee (Shorty is also a brilliant artist and you can check out his works in the gallery). For the serious ‘paca folk, you can get stuck into chatting about their experiences at the Royal Show and breeding and all that jazz, but for the casual fan it is just a lovely little stop.

The gallery is full of some wonderful Alpaca products and make for some great momentos of the trip. Who knew alpaca wool is SO soft and warm? If we told you we didn’t buy baby Jack an Alpaca soft plush toy then we would be lying. Because of course we did. The gallery is open 10-4 on weekends and school holidays or by appointment.

  • We recently did a huge 11 night trip to the Yorke Peninsula with the kids in tow - fantastic trip, but by the time we got to our second to last stop, we were running a bit low on the food we had packed when we left home and who has time for supermarket shopping on holiday? Enter, Grazing Yorkes! We got in touch with Emily and ordered a cheese platter box and a breakfast box and she delivered them direct to our accommodation so once we checked in, we could settle back with a drink and graze the afternoon away! How convenient and a little bit special too, which is what you want when you are having a weekend away right? It's such a dream, you can order these and have them delivered any where around the Copper Coast (small delivery fee may apply depending exactly where you want the boxes to show up - but Moonta, Wallaroo & Kadina are free!) The grazing box included several cheeses, crackers, dips, strawberries, cured meats and more. We loved it, the kids loved it and there was PLENTY - so much that we had enough for sunset nibbles the next night…

  • What is a cowie.....? Great question and you can find out the answers behind the name of this business + a bit of local knowledge when you visit this epic family friendly BELTER of a craft brewery. Located in Minlaton on the Yorke Peninsula about two and a half hours from Adelaide, you'll find your self surrounded by the wholesome goodness of many, many Yorke Peninsula activities and attractions that are great with kids and even better washed down with one of these beers. You will love the casual, funky, relaxed open air feel of this 'beer shed' (Can we call it a beer shed?) With loads of indoor seating, a cosy fireplace and plenty of outdoor tables too. It feels like a bit of a hub for the community, but also a solid asset to local tourism. There's no kitchen at this brewery, but check in with the Watsacowie website, or social media accounts, as they often have the best of the local food trucks serving up top beer nosh. We fully lucked it with YP Wood Oven Pizzas on our visit and that sure kept the kids happy so as Dad (that's me) could enjoy his exceptional (and…
