We love a winery that welcomes families and kids.
Yorke Peninsula is known for a lot of things, beaches, fishing, summer holidays, Innes National Park…. and honestly? Traditionally wine has never really featured in this region, but stay with us because #worthit – this place is a cracker! It especially gets a high recommend from us, no matter where you are on Yorkes, if the weather turns ordinary – it’s a great place to take shelter for an arvo.
We know you guys love a surprise package and we know you love a family friendly venue. Barley Stacks Winery is both of those things and it is also the first commercial vineyard and winery to be established on the traditional barley belt of the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. Throw in a few awards including a current 2021 Yorke Peninsula Tourism Winner, a title this venue is no stranger to, and you have a fantastic place.
The huge casual cellar door has a gorgeous rustic farm / barrel shed feel to it, and was made cosy on our cool Spring day visit with heaters. We knocked back a lovely cheese platter and some house made pizzas with the kids, indulged in a wine tasting and bought a few items of regional produce.
The kids were very happy with the food, enjoyed a little taste of non alcoholic verjuice (which they identified as granny smith apple taste – so fun) and were occupied with the kids corner as well as just the room to move about. Happy days.
The service and hospitality is wonderful and staff went out of their way to engage with the kids – always makes us smile. Having now spent a significant amount of time on Yorkes, there is a theme here….. We have decided Yorke Peninsula may well be the friendliest place in SA.
Barley Stacks are open 7 days a week, 10am-5pm with wine tastings, pizzas and cheese platters available every day, and this place really is a a must visit with your family (yep kids included).
You will also find a selection of local produce available including Watsacowie Brewing beers and Sunny Hill Distillery cocktails.
Less relevant to our audience, Barley Stacks Winery also operate as a successful function centre. Think weddings, celebration events and group occasions.

What is a cowie.....? Great question and you can find out the answers behind the name of this business + a bit of local knowledge when you visit this epic family friendly BELTER of a craft brewery. Located in Minlaton on the Yorke Peninsula about two and a half hours from Adelaide, you'll find your self surrounded by the wholesome goodness of many, many Yorke Peninsula activities and attractions that are great with kids and even better washed down with one of these beers. You will love the casual, funky, relaxed open air feel of this 'beer shed' (Can we call it a beer shed?) With loads of indoor seating, a cosy fireplace and plenty of outdoor tables too. It feels like a bit of a hub for the community, but also a solid asset to local tourism.
