Here’s a fully fenced playground in Mitcham that’s great for toddlers and pre schoolers…..BUT there are no toilets so just be aware of that.
A brand new toddler playground was added to Barrens Reserve in mid 2017 to sit alongside the existing older kids equipment and if you’re kids love climbing and some space for a run around it’s ideal.
AND IT’S FULLY FENCED!
The new equipment has a jungle explorer theme. There’s climbing walls, ropes and poles, a jeep car to “drive”, monkey bars, a nice small slow slide for little ones, a bigger slide for older kids, a nest swing and two other swings, rockers and this funny face our kids thought was hilarious!
There’s a nice big shade sail over the new equipment which is great because the rest of the park isn’t very shaded, except for a few nice trees. It didn’t matter on the crappy rainy day we visited but it could get hot there on a sunny day if it was busy.
There’s plenty of easy street parking around the park and it’s also walkable distance from the Mitcham Train Station. Mitcham Shopping Centre is also walkable, about 1km away so you can pick up a coffee, water or some snacks from there if you need to.
Barrens Reserve Mitcham would also be great for a picnic birthday party. There’s no BBQ facilities but there is a table and benches and there is a lots of grassy space for picnic rugs and camp chairs.
Find it at: Kooralla Grove, Kidman Park What a great little park this one is. With a fantastic range of play equipment, including some reasonably challenging climbing equipment to a playground with an enclosed twirly slide, this has something for most ages. It even has a heap of outdoor gym equipment but lets be honest, apart from sitting on the ski swingy one, nobody has ever used any of it....or is that just us? No toilets is the only let down here, but it has a BBQ, seating, a mix of toddler and traditional swings, several slides and is a really beautiful spot. There is no fencing but the river is about 100m away and it is in a nice quiet back street so you shouldn't have many issues.
Find it at: Phillip Avenue, Leabrook This quaint little neighbourhood playground is nestled in the quiet suburb of Leabrook and the was upgraded in 2024. Fully fenced and whilst there is no shade provided, the playground is situated under some beautiful big old gum trees that do provide some protection from the sun. There are also a few smaller trees around the edge off the grassed area that provide small amounts of shade for those wanting a small picnic space . This park is more suitable for toddlers. Unfortunately no toilets or BBQ facilities are located in this park. Thanks for City of Burnside of the images.
Find it at: Dampier Avenue, Findon Dampier Reserve at Findon is great a central neighbourhood playground and reserve for the kids to discover (don't forget to bring the racquets!). You'll find the following facilities: Nature play Sheltered picnic tables Two tennis courts Play equipment Basketball ring Public toilets Not a bad little back street playground which if you are a local, is a great little spot to tire the kids out or have a hit of tennis!
