Find it at: Miravale

The fences are down at the Miravale housing development playground at Angle Vale! With some touches on their fantastic play space in the heart of the development, still being done but the locals are loving it!

With a great tower and tube slide the centre piece, rock climbing wall, gym equipment, pump track, basketball court and with nature play and a whole range of other equipment for the kids to play on, this will be a winner with locals. We loved the undercover BBQ area which will be a very busy birthday party spot we reckon.

Oh did we mention there are toilets?!! Word of warning they are in the development sales centre, so they are sometimes closed if the office isn’t staffed. It is also really close to the local Drakes, Angle Vale Tavern, Sneaky’s Restaurant and Virgara Wines so a great spot for the day trippers to plan their trek out north.

Lacking a bit of shade at the moment, which is common for new developments, but give it time as they have planted a lot of trees (and have installed some nice shaded seating areas) so this should grow nicely into a really popular spot out north for families.

  • Find it at: Bowman Park Road, Crystal Brook The incredible new nature play space at Bowman Park Crystal Brook is now open! The photos below just look incredible and we can't wait to head up and have a look on our next road trip. Designed and built by the uber talented folks at Climbing Tree Consultancy (Simon has been promising to show us his shed...which we expect will be EPIC!), built in only 9 weeks (meanwhile painting a toy box has taken me about 3 months so far....) after an idea 3 years in the design and planning, the result is a stunning play space located along the edge of a creek with majestic river redgums and an abundance of local wildlife. What we love is how the whole community has come together for this, with talented local artists and builders providing their amazing skills but also rocks, machinery and other little gems you will find during your adventures. We think they have absolutely nailed it. Just a short drive off the main Highway to Port Pirie and Port Augusta, this is the NEW detour that you just have to take!

  • Find it at: South Terrace, Pooraka Kids have the option of two separate playground equipment sets with climbs, poles and the customary slide and swings. Covered picnic benches within the playground area serve as a comfortable rest stop where parents can easily keep watch. The more active will appreciate the fitness equipment, which includes a variety of bars and benches, and the Unity Park Skate Facility has an impressive circuit of ramps, rails, boxes, slopes and quadrangles to delight skating enthusiasts. If that’s not enough, Unity Park is also home to The Cross Keys BMX Club and their ramps, dirt jumps and sharp bends will challenge any rider’s skills. Sheltered picnic tables are within the playground area, and there’s a BBQ just outside the fence. The kids can enjoy plenty of equipment and space to move, and so much lush green grass to run around on or have a picnic. You’ll also find a lake and ducks to feed, and it’s a great bike riding spot. • Find it at: Leonard Norman Drive, Waikerie Opened in December 2018 the Waikerie Water and Nature Play Park was the idea of local couple Clive and Donna Mathews who received a $150,000 Fund My Neighbourhood grant from the SA Government and also raised a further $100,000+ from the local Rotary Club, Council and Go Fund me campaign. (how good is that!). The playground also now includes an accessible roundabout for wheelchairs and an accessible swing. The park is in a beautiful location right on the riverfront. There's plenty of natural shade from the big trees surrounding the area and lots of space to run around, kick a ball or set up a picnic spot for the day. One of the most popular area of the park is the water play area which is great on a hot day, but remember to bring a change of clothes! The other equipment blends in beautifully with the surroundings and includes big rocks and wooden planks to balance on, a big wooden climbing tower, tunnels to hide in, sensory play zones, a variety of swings, slides, climbing nets, and a flying fox! Kids will also love climbing in and on the old beautifully painted…
