Frozen The Musical is FINALLY here in Adelaide until 31 July 2022 and WOW what a show! If you feel like you need something uplifting and magical in your life about now (and I mean…..it’s been a LONG couple of years right) please book yourself some tickets to see it. It’s an absolute delight.

Adapted from the 2013 Oscar-winning film, the story of Elsa, Anna, Hans, Kristoff, Sven and of course Olaf is truly brought to life on stage in this truly magical show. The story stays mostly true to the movie with all the songs you know ALL of the words to, plus some new ones that are just as catchy. The musical is by the same producers as The Lion King, Mary Poppins and Aladdin (which toured Adelaide a few years ago and completely sold out) so that’s the kind of show you can expect from Frozen.

The sets are incredible and Holy snowball the costumes! When Elsa arrives to belt out Let it Go there were tears. A combination of joy, nostalgia and the 18,000 Swarovski crystals that make up Elsa dress shining into my eyeballs, what a moment! The performances were both individually and collectively faultless. The singing is incredible, the dancing is fabulous, it’s funny, it’s emotional, it’s big, it’s shiny and is as Hygge and Hygge gets (you’ll have to see it to understand that reference).

So the big question is…….Is this a show for kids?
The answer. Yes!………and no.

The show is 2.5 hours long and if you’re little ones (under 5’s) are anything like my 3 year old, that’s way too long to sit still in one spot. In saying that, I did sit next to a 5 year old who sat completely mesmerised for the entire performance, but I would say that anyone over 8 will enjoy it most, and it’s particularly special, if like my 10 year old, your kids were little when the movie was first released and can now go back as “big kids” to experience it live on stage. My 10 year old and her best friend are still raving about it. It was “the best thing ever” apparently. (They’re not wrong!)

It really is a show for adults to enjoy though. Book in that baby sitter and take your partner for date night, round up your girlfriends for a fun night out, take your mum for a girls night out, take your theatre loving Dad for his birthday.

It was brilliant. We loved it. Go see it! Gees it’s good to see a live performance again.

Frozen the Musical is playing a limited season at the Adelaide Festival Centre from May 26 with matinee and evening shows available.

  • The Adelaide season of 9 to 5 The Musical doesn't start until October 2022 but I was lucky enough to catch a sneak peek of the Brisbane opening earlier in the year and the show had the whole audience singing, laughing and toe tapping from the moment it started. If you're overdue for a feel good night out with your besties tumble out of bed and stumble to the Adelaide Festival Centre this October. The icon herself, Dolly Parton (on a screen) opens the show and sets the scene for a joyful and colourful couple of hours of singing and dancing. Similar to the movie this story is set in an American office in the 1980's. Violet, Doralee and Judy unexpectedly join forces to fight their way to the top of their male dominated office, head up by the truly gross boss man Franklin Hart Jnr, played "perfectly" by Eddie Perfect (yes that's Mick from Offspring) The movie version was released forty two years ago and unfortunately a lot of the equality issues the storyline discusses we're STILL talking about in 2022 (sigh) but boy it's great to see a show so fiercely led by some incredible female leads. Whoever…

  • One of our KiA Dads, Tim, is a huge movie buff so we've put him on the job and he'll be reviewing as many kid friendly movies as he can manage every school holidays. It's sometimes hard to judge from just a movie trailer or movie rating if something is suitable for your kids so Tim will not only be reviewing each film but also recommending which kids might enjoy or not enjoy it. The Sloth Lane Runtime: 89 minutes How to watch: In Cinemas now!Rating: PGShort version – So wholesome you simply can't not like it.Suitable For: Big kids. Little kids. Everyone We do love when a sleeper Aussie flick surprises us with its awesomeness and that is exactly what happened with The Sloth Lane. Not renowned for being a core Australiana animal the sloth, but on this occasion we follow the cricket loving sloth Laura and her family (who have Spanish accents - just go with it) find their home destroyed by a storm, they take their tasty traditional food to the big city and open a food truck. The plot is certainly left field but thats part of the charm here, as the main story is teen…
