Family celebrations, a meal out or a lazy Sunday drive to the hills needn’t bore your kids and have them whinging at you. Grunthal Brew is the perfect venue that has it all, and the kids are not going to want to leave. So text the friends you don’t see often enough, book the birthday lunch for your self and get up to Grunthal.
Missing the yellow cow from the main street of Hahndorf? You’ll find it here, with the cute little Udder Delights Cheese Cellar tucked into this venue, where you can also enjoy great food, craft beer, wine, gin flights and a fun kids menu that can all be enjoyed in this super high quality. family-friendly space. Think umbrellas outdoors, a creek, expansive lawn, a cubby, a slack line for the kids to balance on and just room to explore.
When its cool, there is a delightful fireplace doing a great job of keeping the space warm and cosy, surrounded by couches. The main dining area, ‘The Great Hall’, includes tables, booths, bar tables, and also offers the ‘Grünthal Greenhouse’ for private functions. When it’s sunny out, there are shady trees and umbrellas for days!
The menu at Grünthal is definitely a big step up from standard brewery fare! There are a great range of small plates, pizzas, and specials on offer. Udder Delights cheeses are well represented, with a delicious cheese fondue, a ‘Too Cheesy’ deep dish pizza, and even the humble toastie is made with Truffle Cheddar. The pizza is next level. The real star of the menu for the kids was the dessert (of course) – an extra special sundae topped with Persian fairy floss.
They haven’t forgotten to cater for dietary options including vegetarian, dairy free, gluten free and vegan either!
For the grown ups, there is an extensive drinks menu including tea, coffee and iced drinks, wines, three varieties of Grünthal Gin, cocktails and mocktails, and of course the extensive and delicious Grünthal beer range, including eBeer – with a new brewing technology that you’ll love hearing about.
Grünthal makes it super easy to cater for groups with a “Feed my Group”, “Feed my Party” and “Feed my Child” selection of items from the main menu.
The kids loved exploring the fantastic lawns on the bank of the Onkaparinga River. There is seating and shade on the raised terrace, and the lawns are accessible by both a ramp and stairs. We can’t think of a better place to lay down a picnic rug and enjoy a sunny afternoon watching the kids play while we had an uninterrupted adult catch up and all of the tasty things!
Before you depart, be sure to choose some gin, beer or wine to take home, and of course some of the many cheeses and trimmings on offer.
The indoor dining area is accessible with plenty of space to manoeuvre around tables and park prams. The female toilets allow enough room to leave a pram outside the cubicle door if required, and the accessible toilet is very roomy and has a full size change table, nappy disposal unit, and grab rails.
Ingenuity Baby Base seats are available to seat your little ones at the table – just another extra touch that makes this family day out so much easier.
Book it in, every one will be happy here!

Iconically South Australian, you will find affordable, warm, filling and delicious options for all of the family on the massive menu at all four Café de Vili's locations. We recently popped past with a couple of kids to see what they thought, and they gave the kids menu a double thumbs up. If you are looking for somewhere to refuel any time of the day or night, seven days a week, this is your spot. We visited the OG Mile End location, however you will also find excellent franchises at Blair Athol, Elizabeth (with a playground and drive thru mind you) and Hillcrest. The menu is extensive. Sure pies, pasties and sausage rolls are for the win every day of the week, but did you know you can get burgers? Schnitzels? Full breakfasts and Al la Carte meals? Plus they are licenced too. The sandwich and wraps station almost tempted me, and the cold weather was a monkey on my back, so I ordered a chicken schnitzel with the most delicious and indulgent spicy kransky and tomato topping. I just didn't know food like this was on the menu here. The kids menu is fantastic and falls under $12 for…
You won't ever regret taking the beautiful short stroll in to the centre of Adelaide's Botanic Garden to Evergreen Deli with your kids, where families can experience the magic of nature and exceptional café food (inspired by the gardens) combined. You'll quickly forget that you are in the heart of Adelaide City, and life will slow down for a little while. Nestled amidst the lush greenery and vivid backdrop of the Gardens, it's the perfect spot to enjoy a delightful meal or a simple coffee break! Families will appreciate the inviting, fresh air atmosphere that makes it easy to relax and savor their time together while surrounded by all things good. There is plenty of room to easily maneuver a pram and the expansive alfresco dining ensures kids can move about and explore while waiting on their food and drinks. Additionally, you will find accessible bathroom amenities here for everyone. While we love the coffee, the house made focaccia sandwiches and cold pressed juices are incredible, and last but certainly not least (probably our favourite) the granola gives 'luxe honey crackle' vibes and is so beautifully presented that it almost feels like a work of art. The kids menu is…
If an exceptional quality, family-friendly brunch is your thing, everyone in your clan will love the Kitchen Farm Pantry in Newenham Estate, Mt Barker. Here you will find hectares of underutilized Adelaide Hills land being transformed into a sustainable, productive farm that supplies produce to the Pantry and Nursery Store, setting an example for combining food production with community care. The goal is to create a model for how sustainable farming can work within a residential area, and we love that. The kids' menu is notably cute, making it clear that children are very much welcome. The café embraces a paddock-to-plate philosophy and features an adjoining humble nursery with a range of plants that can be sold to the community. We loved the cosy fire for winter, plus there's also a huge barn and kids play corner to explore and plenty of space to run around. In summer, think of a cool hills breeze under umbrellas and shady trees. After you eat, check out the street style library box behind the main building for a very unexpected surprise! Kitchen Farm Pantry in The Adelaide Hills is all about celebrating local produce and supporting the community. It has a beautiful focus…
