Adelaide Fringe for Kids – Our Pick of the Best Fringe Shows for 2025

The 2025 Adelaide Fringe runs from Friday, February 21, 2025 – Sunday, March 23, 2025

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! No, not Christmas, we are talking about the 2025 Adelaide Fringe! Four weeks of fun across Adelaide including a BUNCH of family friendly shows. There is everything from kids dance shows, kids circus performances, music concerts for the whole family, live theatre with much loved kids stories, puppet shows that even Mum & Dad will enjoy and even discos for kids!

The Adelaide Fringe is such a brilliant family event for kids of all ages – there are shows for babies and little kids right through to tweens and teenagers that will leave the whole family wanting more. Because of the casual nature of most Adelaide Fringe shows, taking your kids to a performance is a great way to introduce them to the arts and start teaching them about theatre etiquette. The whole family might learn some new dance moves, a circus trick, a new song or even learn a valuable life lesson.

Most of the family friendly shows happen over the weekends of the Adelaide Fringe so have a look at our picks below or jump onto the Children section of the Adelaide Fringe website and start booking! Will you see a much loved children’s ballet? A classic kids performer you remember from your own childhood? (We’re looking at you Peter Coombe!) A bubble show?  Or will you see something quirky or take a chance on a new artist? No matter what you see, your kids are sure to love it and coupled with some of the funky venues and delicious Fringe food options, it’s sure to be a fun family day out.

Not only are there shows in the main Adelaide Fringe hubs in the heart of the city, there are also performances across Adelaide suburbs at community centres and theatres as well as regional shows. So no matter where you live, there is sure to be something close by to enjoy with the whole family.

Join the Welcome Ceremony to acknowledge the ancestors and pay respect to the land and waters on which we gather. This event will be held at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens on the Sunday before Fringe commences, marking the beginning of the 2025 festival. Gather your fellow Fringe-goers for this free, family-friendly event! Get all the details here.

We’ll be updating this page frequently with all our favourite Adelaide Fringe shows for kids and families this year. Make sure you check back often, and also follow us on Facebook and Instagram for show reviews and other family friendly Fringe highlights. BAM WOW Amazing Show

Bamboozled Productions brand new truly multi-generational show for children. BAM WOW Amazing Show, is guaranteed to entertain the young and the young at heart. One of Australia’s finest jugglers, the international street theatre sensation and film star, Mr Spin brings his jaw dropping circus skills, mad capped antics, and kooky comedy to the stage.

With his sidekick THE MAESTRO on piano, they deliver a funny, laugh a minute show that has the children and adults thoroughly entertained. In matching suits and bright red socks, MAESTRO acts as the straight foil to Mr Spin – except when he doesn’t.

Mr Spin’s primary schtick is to emphasize what can go wrong, and what can go wonderfully right! In this ode to vaudeville, there is a wonderful clothing routine that every child and parent can relate to, plenty of slapstick with a music stand that won’t go together.

A quirky magic routine, a six-ball juggling saga and ballet routine. This all leads up to a finale that will take your breath away, whether through laughter or pure wonder. Mr Spin high up on a zig- zag unicycle playing a mini bass, and a one-man band with drums, piano accordion and trumpet, this show is really BAM WOW Amazing! And yes, there are fart jokes.

AFRIQUE EN CIRQUE

Returning to Adelaide Fringe after last year’s spectacular premiere: The incredible Afrique en Cirque is a show by Yamoussa Bangoura, inspired by daily life in Guinea. This performance shares the beauty, youth and artistry of African culture through a colourful show that will make any space vibrate with energy. It represents strength, agility and life’s joys of young Africans. The audience will see acrobats execute gravity defying moves and human pyramids, all to the contemporary sounds of Afro-Jazz, percussion, and Kora.

Yamoussa Bangoura is a multidisciplinary artist of Guinean origin, who created the company Kalabanté Productions in 2007. Yamoussa always had a dream of founding a circus school and having his own company in African arts. As a young man, he studied the circus performers he saw on European TV and practised on the beach by his home. Eventually he joined Circus Baobab, Guinea’s original circus, and in the early 2000s he was recruited to perform in Canada.

Living in Montreal for several years, the hub of circus in Canada, Yamoussa began to develop his own shows, which over the past several years have been increasingly gathering attention and recognition in the worldwide circus arts community. Sawdust

Sawdust tells the story of a baby elephant navigating the thrills, friendships and fun of circus life.

Moving between whimsical and heartfelt moments, the production takes audiences on a lively adventure where they get to meet Sawdust and an eclectic mix of performers—each with their own quirks and wisdom to share. With stunning visuals, eclectic music, and larger-than-life characters, Sawdust is a celebration of community, belonging, and the magic that unfolds when you discover your place in the world.

Sawdust is brought to life through a beautifully realised life sized puppet. Operated expertly from inside the puppet, we are able to create a living, breathing, energetic and fun baby elephant onstage that can interact with the characters in the show and the audience. Made by the brilliant Australian company Erth, this puppet is unlike any you may have seen onstage before.

In addition to the puppet, we have three electric and quirky cirque performers as well as a wonderful female live vocalist who plays the role of the ringleader of the show.

“This show is more than a circus spectacle,” says director Melinda Gillies. “It’s about the power of connection and finding joy in life’s unexpected moments.”
