YMCA Gymnastics State Sports Park

YMCA’s newest gymnastics location will be opening at the State Sports Park in October 2024. The brand new location will host a range of recreational gymnastics programs for children aged 1+, all in a safe and fun environment.

KinderGym: 1 – 5 years

KinderGym provides a semi-structured, parent guided play based session introducing children to fundamental movement skills. With a focus on fun, movement and participation, KinderGym is the perfect foundation program for children to lead an active and healthy life full of sport and recreation.

Mini Gym: 4 – 5 years

A structured gymnastics class specifically designed for pre-schoolers aged 4-5 years old. Participants develop strength, balance, flexibility, coordination and posture, while learning fundamental gymnastics skills in a mixed gender, small group setting.

Recreational Gymnastics: 5+ years

Designed for participants with varying abilities, stages 1 – 5 introduce students to fundamental gymnastic skills in an environment that is safe, fun and focused on participation. Students develop skills of body control, coordination and self-confidence.

Daughters & Dads Cricket – a groundbreaking program developing cricket skills and strengthening relationships between daughters and dads.

Like to boost your daughter’s social-emotional wellbeing, increase her physical activity levels, and deepen her relationship with her dad or father figure?
Developed by researchers at the University of Newcastle, in partnership with Cricket Australia, the program is open to primary-school aged girls and their father-figures.
Daughters and Dads Cricket program engages fathers/father figures in positive lifestyle role modelling and evidence-based parenting strategies to enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of their daughters.

How does it work?

Daughters & Dads Cricket is a program for girls aged 6 -12 years and their dad or father figure.
The 9-week runs for 9 weeks with each weekly session running for 90 minutes,

Week 1: Dads Only ‘Powerplay’ Session
Fathers learn about the unique influence they have in their daughters lives and the power of being a role model
Includes parenting strategies to improve their daughters social-emotional well-being, cricket skills and interest, and physical activity levels.
Encourages fathers to become gender equity advocates

Weeks 2 – 8: Daughters & Dads Sessions
30-minute empowerment component focusing on the rules of the game, positive female role models and tips to improve skills. Also covers social-emotional wellbeing topics of persistence, resilience and bravery in a cricket context, and addresses how to combat gender prejudices
60-minute active component focusing on 3 key areas – Rough and Tumble Fielding, Bowling and Batting Skills, and Modified games. Each of these 3 areas have a strong evidence base for enhancing the physical and mental health of girls, but dads also reap significant benefits!

There are so many amazing, unique and versatile spaces around the City of Port Adelaide Enfield – but the state-of-the-art The Lights Community and Sports Centre, takes things to a whole new level.
