Its no secret we love a bakery. In fact hitting up a bakery whenever we travel literally anywhere, occurs so often it can be classed as a hobby. So when we spent the morning at the beautiful central Yorke Peninsula town of Minlaton, we went to where the locals go, the Minlaton Bakery. Located on the Main Street (you really can’t miss it), we found it to be ideal spot to fuel up a mid morning treat before having a crack at the awesome Minlaton Playground, just down the road.

But what to eat? The eternal bakery dilemma. Generally, a bakery is judged on their chocolate donuts and meat pies, which we can comfortably say (bearing in mind we also review a LOT of donuts….check out some of our faves here) that they are top notch on both counts. Freshly baked, plenty of stock, heaps of variety (without getting too freaky with insta photo op donuts you can’t actually properly eat) and lots of space to sit down inside and enjoy your meal with the fam. Did we mention the coffee? Because you never quite know what you are going to get with country bakery coffee do you….will it be amazing or will it be flavoured hot water? You just can’t tell. Thankfully (and we are coffee snobs) the coffee here was fantastic!

We loved the centre table area too, where you will find a range of local treats to purchase (if you think we left without a smiley face cookie you are mistaken). Open every day except Sunday, chuck this in your Yorkes itinerary as the perfect breakfast, brunch of lunch spot.

The menu at 'The Dal' offers some pub classics (done exceptionally well) alongside some unexpected (because it is a country pub) blow your head off tasty restaurant quality options. We started with some share plates - think Pork Belly Bao, Harvey Bay Scallops + Duck Sliders and the star of our mains were a mix of plant based meals, classic pub fair and a beautiful caramelised pork belly with apple and mint salad. There is always a daily specials board and the menu changes seasonally, but features the highest quality fresh produce including South Australian Seafood and Local Oysters. They also do the regions best pizza. Show me a better one. The kids are spoilt for choice, with decent sized servings of quality fare accompanied by salad and chips. Save room for a trendy little…
