A quiet suburban reserve in Davoren Park, Pete Smith Reserve honours a SAPOL patrol officer who spent the majority of his career working from the Elizabeth Police Station. In his 18 years working in the district, Pete Smith was renowned for his capacity to relate to the local residents, especially those with particular needs, and was always willing to go the extra mile. He led by example to younger police personnel, displaying patience and being unflappable, but also being firm when firmness was required.

Today, the park name in his honour is comprised of a mid-sized grassy play area, basketball half-court and a playground suitable for younger children (zero to five years of age). We love the quality of this build with climbing netting, a small tower structure and tube slide, plus a small grassed area surrounding the play equipment.

We took the youngsters there recently and they had a ball on the playground as well as riding the junior tracks, with the 4 year old even having a great time on the intermediate track. The 'Kites and Kestrels' playground is found at the end of many of the bike paths. The natural form playspace features multiple 'raptor-themed birds nest' climbing structures in the middle of the play area which give a really cool birds eye view from above. There are also large sandpits built to look like birdsnests from above, slides, a flying fox, rockbed, balance frames, swings, toilets, BBQs and more. The playground is well suited to kids of school ages, with a few areas that might be tricky if you bring toddlers. Parking for the playspace and most bike paths is best accessed from the main entry and car park at the corner of Bridge and Smith Roads, Salisbury East. • Find it at: Yorktown Road, Elizabeth Park 'Dwight Reserve', located on the corner of Yorktown and Adams Rd is a nice little spot for the locals with some cool equipment and a HEAP of space. It has a car park, shaded seating, park benches, rubbish bins and a large oval nearby (bring the footy or a kite!). It doesn't have secure fencing or toilets but is great for a quick play after school or a picnic on the weekend. I do love the multi-ring basketball bucket...sort of reminds me of Greenhills at Victor Harbor and beating my brother when we were kids! So make sure you pack the car with ALL of the balls, kites and frizbees. There is also a fabulous pump track which is more than suitable for the little kids and those who are still finding their feet (or wheels!), so make sure you pack the bikes.

  • Find it at: Yorktown Road, Elizabeth The Fremont Park upgrade was completed in 2020 and the verdict? AWESOME! There is so much to do. Like so so much. The list is almost endless but lets just say that there will be equipment to satisfy literally everyone of all ages and abilities. There are plenty of BBQs, toilets (THANK YOU!), drinking fountains, heaps of parking, seating for adults and they have even added a basketball court too! Local school children contributed to the upgrade plans which will include new all-abilities play equipment, climbing equipment, spinning cogs, talking tubes and even some Holden themed play/climbing structures. It is so cool! The all-abilities playspace features the first Communication Board, which helps make communication accessible for those who are non-verbal, as well as a changing place for those who cannot use standard accessible toilets. The $2M playspace completes Stage Two of the Fremont Park redevelopment and complements this sensational space for the northern community.
