We have found the most fantastic family friendly B&B – it’s Shellwater @ Sellicks Beach on the stunning Fleurieu Peninsula! This holiday house will easily sleep two families and is well equipped with everything you need for a great stay. It’s only a short walk to Sellicks Beach, with beach access and has a playground at the end of the street! Perfect for a couple of families or groups of friends looking for a Fleurieu beach getaway! Oh and it’s also dog friendly! We stayed recently and couldn’t fault this gorgeous beachside house.

From the get go, our host Belinda was helpful and accommodating throughout the booking process and kept us informed of everything we needed to know for check in (super easy by the way!). The first thing you’ll notice when you arrive is that Shellwater is on a HUGE block, perfect for heaps of outdoor games and activities, plus it is fully fenced, so kids (and dogs) can run free! The kids were so excited to see the big tubs of balls, bats, frisbees, even super soakers on the deck as we made our way to the front door.

As we walked inside, it was evident to see how much care has taken to create a relaxing coastal retreat. We only stayed two nights, but you could easily spend many days here enjoying the artwork, decor, recipes books, magazines and beautiful furniture the house has been styled with.

There are three bedrooms – two have queen sized beds and the kids room has three bunk beds, plenty of room for everyone! The kids room is decked out with books, toys, board games, even a TV and a Super Nintendo! The other two bedrooms are well appointed with hanging space, plenty of blankets, lamps and bedside tables. The kitchen is FANTASTICALLY equipped – it would be simple to whip up a gourmet meal here! There are plenty of plastic cups, plates and bowls for the kids and the best thing of all? A DISHWASHER! The large lounge and dining area provides plenty of space for everyone to hang out and play games, eat, watch tv or just chill.

Honestly for us, the highlight was the huge yard. There is a BBQ and undercover dining area, a firepit and a deck for enjoying drinks, but the kids loved playing on the lawn with all of the sports equipment provided. There is also a little “secret garden” with a path meandering through fruit trees, flowers and shrubs – perfect for some imaginative outdoor play!

While we weren’t chilling inside or enjoying the yard, we spent time at the playground at the end of the street (a 5 minute walk), playing down on the beach or exploring the Fleurieu. Our choice was Smiling Samoyed Brewery but there are plenty of other family friendly eats in the area.

Shellwater @ Sellicks is perfect for a family getaway anytime of the year – enjoy the beach or the air-conditioned rooms in summer, or hang out by the firepit in indoor fireplace in winter! We’ll be back!

  • We love a family friendly winery and they don't come much better than Vine Shed, in McLaren Vale on the wonderful Fleurieu Peninsula. If you haven't been here yet, clear the diary and book in for lunch, wine tasting or some live music with the whole family at this stunner of a cellar door! The Vine Shed is so much more than a cellar door however - it is a full blown family friendly restaurant, wedding venue and live music venue with something for everyone. The venue itself is a mix of modern and rustic - it's a huge, stunning building set on Conte Estate, with a vast dining space inside, along with a Mezzanine. Outside you'll find a bridge over a small rocky waterfall, leading out to a large lawn area for kids to run around, complete with a cubby, swings and outdoor games - heaven! Oh and did we mention there are also a few ponds with fish, ducks and elusive frogs (we couldn't see them, but we could certainly hear them!). Just bear in mind that the ponds aren't fenced, so keep a close eye on little ones. Let's get onto the menu - one of the…

  • To the rest of Australia, beautiful beaches probably isn't the first thing that springs to mind when you think about South Australia BUT we know something they don't know. When it comes to blue water, white sand, rockpools, reefs and gentle waves - S.A's got the goods. Not all beaches are the same when it comes to family friendly though. They've got to have gentle waves, no strong sweeps or currents, they have to be easy to get to, ....... Please remember to keep a close eye on your kids at the beach, swim between the flags where possible and always slip, slop, slap and wrap. If you answered YES to any of the above, then it is time to take a drive down the Fleurieu Peninsula to Smiling Samoyed Brewery at Myponga. It is situated right on the Myponga Reservoir and it is one of our favourite spots to hang out with the family while enjoying a great meal. Smiling Samoyed Brewery is open 7 days a week and have their pizza oven firing everyday. So there's no need to wait until a weekend, head down there anytime for a great meal. You'll be greeted by the stars of the show - Kent and Hoppy, their two GORGEOUS white samoyed dogs who lap up the attention of all the guests. There is an outdoor playground, perfect to keep the kids entertained while they wait for their food. It's a decent sized playground too, definitely not an afterthought. Our kids loved playing "houses" on the playground and our three year old learnt how to slide down the fire pole - so much fun! If it is too wet or too hot to be outside on the playground, don't…
