Find it at: Anzac Parade, Stansbury

If you are on the Southern Yorke Peninsula there are a few great playgrounds to explore, and we believe this is one of them. Sure it’s not all ‘ritzy and new’ BUT it’s on the esplanade (that’s surely a win) of picturesque ‘Oyster Bay’ aka Stansbury. This large play space is well maintained, is fully fenced and offers ample shaded seating options..

Our advice – grab a take away fish and chip cone from the local pub (they are massive so the kids can share) and take a stroll about 300m further along the beach front to this little beauty.

One end features some lower play equipment for the smaller kids in our lives, including a cute tandem slide and steps with hand rails more manageable for toddlers.

We always love the the little fishing boat and a quick game of noughts and crosses.

There is a four way see-saw that gets a good work out and the entire family can join in for a bounce and some exercise equipment for youth or Mum and Dad to work off the holiday indulgences.

If like my kids yours love a good game of ‘Floor is Lava’ the middle section of this play ground provides a large and some what epic course of challenging monkey bars and climbing/hanging opportunities. We also love the high slide here – it’s fast! Back in my day it was a slide down on to the beach – now THAT was cool because at high tide you could slide into the water #bringitback

Completing the play equipment is a favourite – curly slide just screaming for chants of “I’m the king of the castle” from the little tower at the top.

Finally no good playground is complete with out swings. This space offers two toddler swings and two regular swings and the kids will feel like they are almost going to swing into the ocean with this view!

Out side the gate are toilets, change rooms, a drink fountain, ample car parking and a water tap and out door shower. The playground is also adjacent one of the beaches popular swimming spots, complete with shelter shed on the beach and a pontoon. (It pays to take not of the tide times here – much of the day see’s the bay with out water. We like the Willy Weather App for tide times, wind forecast and of course temperature etc etc.)

The final thing we love about the Stansbury Foreshore is the paved path and pretty gardens that connect the caravan park at one end of the bay to the play ground and then all of the way around the esplanade to the Jetty. Definitely good for scooters and bikes, and oh so pretty! The bay has a north eastern aspect, so no sunset shots – but if you have early waking kids the sunrises are bang on.

There are BBQ’s very near by and a good selection of grassed and shaded options right around the length of the beach.

Stansbury has a pretty amazing visitor centre, run largely by local volunteers with amazing knowledge of the entire Yorke Peninsula (yes even those less explored beaches and rock holes) so pop in and say hi! Bet you can learn some thing new. Even when this little resource is not open the access to local maps and information on local events can be gained by calling past.

  • Find it at: Rodgers Terrace, Maitland On the corner of Rogers Terrace and Robert St in Maitland there is a great combination playground. It boasts both the typical metal/plastic style playground with a large wooden climbing section. There is a spinning ride (although beware after rain as it fills with water), swings, a big slide, a digger and climbing equipment. It is surrounded by fence for most of the playground with just a small gap for entering (not secure). It has a car park, shaded seating, a free bbq, a double cricket pitch and it's just a short walk to nearby toilets.Fun for the whole family!

  • Find it at: Pederick Road, Lewiston It's a beautiful playground in such a quiet area. There is little traffic passing by and its enclosed. The playground is in good repair, clean and lots of fun for a range of ages. There is a bbq area with plenty of undercover seating, rubbish bins and a public toilet. The carpark is off the road and has plenty of space and there's even a wetlands walking track. Whilst there we noticed that previous families had taken chalk and done drawing on the brick pathways so that's another idea for keeping the children entertained. There is also a grassy area for ball play. It's definitely somewhere I'll be taking my family for a picnic in the future. • Find it at: The Esplanade, Semaphore Semaphore Foreshore is set for an incredible redevelopment, which will include a brand new playground (which will replace the existing playground below). The revised Master Plan is open for community consultation until 19 May 2024, but check out some of the concept images below. We are loving the proposed new activity hub (new playground to be built next to this), and water play! To read the Master Plan and provide feedback, click here. Keep reading for info on the existing playground. The existing Semaphore playground is right in the middle of the Semaphore Foreshore Reserve and bordered by The Fort Glanville Train Rides, The Semaphore Carousel, bustling Semaphore Road and of course the beach and jetty. Don't forget the great kiosk which is always open right at the gate, plus the train rides depart all from the one central location. The playground is undercover and fully fenced with lots of climbing equipment, a flying fox, slides and tunnels. It truly is one of the nicest playground locations in Adelaide, right in the heart of the Semaphore entertainment precinct.
