Ugly Swan have nailed the game changer of all hair brushes and genuinely, I am happy to tell you that the Kids in Adelaide team LOVE these seemingly magical kids detangling hair brushes. Fun fact, we are yet to meet any one who has tried them, who doesn’t like them. It’s kind of one of those ‘if you know, YOU KNOW’ stories.

We came across Ugly Swan at the Royal Adelaide Show a few years back and it’s fair to say that we have been dedicated advocates ever since. Mornings in our houses quite genuinely have one less complex layer to them, and heaven forbid if we can not find an Ugly Swan.

If you have kids with birds nest hair (or any hair) who carry on like absolute pork chops about having it brushed, these are a game changer for you. If your kids have sensory issues, these are your new go to brush. Maybe you are a dance Mum – these bad boi’s will whip up a smooth high pony or bun in zero time and they even make it easy for our kids to wait for it……do their own hair! Maybe Mamma, you are simply after a nice quality hair brush for your own hair right for YOU!

Read on if you can relate to any of that……

Ugly Swan hair brushes help to detangle both thick and thin hair with out discomfort, ripping through hair or causing pain and unnecessary hair damage. They are quality products made with a combination of both natural boar bristles and nylon pins. Oh and wet or dry? Great for both.

Speaking of wet hair, check out their range of Unicorn Hair Towels for quick, easy, frizz free and painless hair drying. These microfibre hair towels can hold seven times their weight in water and dry five times faster than a regular towel. If after swimming lesson hair drying is a pain in your bathers – you need a couple of these, they’re excellent. their Wet Scream-Free® Hair Brush is also a great addition for any swimmers out there, or kids who particularly hate having their wet hair brushed and also great for brushing through conditioner in the shower without breaking your hair. I love this one for myself, which is why we’ve included this brush in our bundle.

Ugly Swan have Scream Free detangling brushes that are suitable for short and long hair – these are not just for girls, you will absolutely find a brush for every one in the family, and the great thing? This is a 100% South Australian business. I’ll click to that.

Choose from a range of trendy colours and designs. We chose our favourite Ugly Swan products for a special KiA bundle for excellent value, and suggest replacing them every twelve months depending how much use they get. You will know your brushes are ready to be replaced when the little balls start to disappear from the nylon bristles. One of our less used brushes is two years old and still going strong.
Pro tip, it pays to keep your brushes clean, something we all forget to do at times.

This year we’ve also added the Ugly Swan Hairvenly™ Knot Nits Detangle & Deter Spray to our special bundle. Perfect for busy families, this spray is a game-changer for families, tackling tough tangles while helping to deter nits, so you can keep little heads feeling fresh and worry-free every day.

If you haven’t picked up what we’re putting down. We are BIG FANS of the Ugly Swan range of hair products for our kids. They have legit saved our before school morning routine and what used to be at least half an hour of tears and tantrums getting two ponytails done, is now a non issue. Our kids from as young as 2 brush their own hair in just a few strokes. A solid 10/10 from us.

  • Kids have some BIG feelings......right? If you hard relate to that opening sentence, let us introduce you to Brave and Able ®. Not only are these two very cute and cuddly, they're also a great tool to help kids take charge of their brains and encourage slow, strong breathing that will help them calm down and take control of an anxious or stressful situation. The built in light in the tummies of Brave and Able ® slowly turns on and off to encourage those nice, slow, deep calming breaths that help kids get out of that fight, flight or freeze response and instead tell our body that it is safe and to rest and digest. Isn't that a great phrase "rest and digest" - I love that. You can read more about the science behind Brave and Able here A few of the Kids in Adelaide kids have their own Brave or Able now and it's been fascinating (and a big relief) to watch how these work. My 9 year old occasionally suffers from anxiety which flares up particularly when she's over tired or nervous about something. Previously we've used the "Lazy 8" breathing technique to help her calm down…

  • Choosing a bike for your kids can be tough. With so many options and so many price points, plus throw in balance bikes and training wheels and sizing and it can all feel a tad overwhelming. The KiA family have kids of all ages and we were so lucky to try out some of the base bike range, an Adelaide based family business offering a range of bikes catering for bike riders aged 2 to 8 years old. base bikes 16 inch model The 16 inch base bike is primed for kids moving off a balance bike and into their pedal bike era. Our just turned 4 year old had become a bit of a whiz on his balance bike, so we decided to try moving him straight from a balance to a pedal bike with no training wheels. There is no right or wrong option here and every kid is different (and we might even end up trying training wheels if needed) The base bike 16 inch option comes in two colours currently, a green and an orange, and the first thing you will notice is how light it is. Low to the ground and seemingly longer than the…
