Attention Northerners – An exciting northern suburbs Doughballs store is now open at Mawson Lakes!

I honestly can’t remember a time when I have been more impressed with a kids menu. Passionate about pizza, fresh SA produce and delivering a quality value offering and experience to families, we couldn’t rave more about our meal with the kids at DoughBalls, Moseley Square Glenelg. DoughBalls is a NEW to The Bay, serving up Brunch from 10am, Lunch, Dinner and takeaway! You can even just stop in for coffee and wait for it, they do *cocktails* (check out the bottomless Sunday Brunch).

Firstly, what is a DoughBall anyway? Well, it’s a little warm ball of heaven to be honest. Served up plain with butters and pesto, or dressed with savoury or sweet toppings. Importantly kids will LOVE them.

Set smack bang in the heart of the square, we were toasty warm upstairs on the balcony, which was heated and enclosed for winter. I can only imagine this prime position will be a popular breezy, balmy delight in summer. The views set the perfect backdrop, although I must admit the kids were torn and drawn to the bright and colourful ‘beach hut style’ booths in restaurant. Dougballs also has downstairs alfresco seating, (complete with heater and blankets, or umbrellas for the sunnier months) a great option if you have strollers or kids that like some time on their feet when you are out.

Like many parents, owners Catriona and Lincoln felt they could rarely find a meal out that properly catered for the family market and let me tell you, they certainly have nailed a casual dining experience that has some amazing offerings for kids all at a really affordable price. For example; they currently have a kids three-course deal with a drink and a babyccino for just ten bucks. The kicker? It includes fresh healthy food options + pizza + your kids are going to LOVE the doughballs and well dessert, goes without saying.

Beyond the awesome kids menu (lunch and dinner) we enjoyed fabulous pizzas for the adults and must have eaten our weight in ALL of the doughballs. My favourite was the signature dessert (pictured below) with vanilla, salted caramel and nutella, but I also loved the warm doughballs with a pesto dipping bowl starter. See, we really did eat ALL the balls.

Brunch is the new black. Ok, we think so at least. DoughBalls released a new brunch menu this month, and it’s fancy (and affordable). From French Toast and Choc Cinnamon inspired DoughBalls, to Bacon & Egg Doughballs or Breakfast Pizza, this cracking menu won us over on our most recent visit. You can even expect to find a $6.00 KIDS Brunch Menu or go all out on a Sunday for ‘Bottomless Brunch with all-inclusive bottomless cocktails! Yep, you heard right and it’s under $50.

The dessert menu is extensive and lavish and there is a notable quality beer and wine offering too.

You can visit for brunch, lunch or dinner, Friday to Sunday currently (book here), and an extensive beachside cocktail menu for just $15 – $16. Of course, you can also do takeaway too and we are loving the quirky messages they write inside the pizza boxes!

What a spot to wander over to for a bite to eat after a day at the beach or a play on the foreshore playground!

For something completely different you can even book a kids pizza making party here! How good does that sound? Or hire the balcony or venue for a private function. Talk about a sweet location.

Grab a crew and book this one in, you won’t be disappointed. View the current menu here

  • I mean, how can you NOT like a round of mini golf in a pirate themed 18 hole course where the whole family can join in?!West Beach Mini Golf is pretty much always open. Public Holidays, school holidays, at night. If you're looking for a way to entertain the kids for a couple of hours, that wont cost you a small fortune, when nothing else seems to be open (like I was on Good Friday) then this is your place. There's a little onsite kiosk where you can grab a coffee, cold drink, small snack or ice cream and also a nice undercover area where spectators can watch your group the whole way around. It's actually also licenced and they often do a packaged deal for a drink and a bite that is really good value. Open EVERY DAY , no bookings required. • Yep, you read that correctly, over eating has never looked better! Marion Pizza Hut still operates an actual restaurant, and you can dine in for 'The Works All you Can Eat' deal! Does family friendly dining in Adelaide get any better than this?! We went along to find out. If you grew up in the 80's there’s no doubt you have fond memories of family nights out at a Pizza Hut Restaurant! I’m pretty sure mum took us after seeing Back to the Future #1 at Willsy’s Academy Cinema. The only thing missing tonight was a Pizza Pete Ginger Bread Man and a Land Before Time promotional toy. Covid 19 restrictions have meant the “serve yourself” has had to go and the salad bar is currently out but the 'all you can eat’ buffet at Marion will still see you meet your food capacity match, when you go up the the pizza bar, they just help serve you for the time being. It’s so much fun and a family friendly environment, cleaner décor and brighter than I remember but still the same affordable night out. Dinner works for Adults is $21.95, Kids 4-12 $10.95 and under 4 are free. Wednesday…

Adelaide’s Best Donut – (A story by Tim)

Donuts. Nobody hates a donut and if they do, they aren’t worth knowing anyway. Probably the most important food in our economy, shown by the fact that when referencing any country town the quality of the bakery is point number 1, and every bakery lives or dies by its donuts. Case closed. Donuts are King.
