If you have ever explored Innes National Park, right down the bottom of the Yorke Peninsula, you would have driven past the Marion Bay Tavern. Might not look like a lot from the outside as you drive past (it is literally a minutes drive from the entry to the National Park), but this is a real hidden gem with spectacular views, incredible pizza and a really lovely place to take the kids.
When we decided to spend the weekend exploring the deep south of ‘The Leg’, a lunch at Marion Bay was the first thing we locked in. The pizza here is quite honestly, some of the best we have had in ages. Anywhere. Even back in the city. It is just that good. Cooked in their unique corrugated iron pizza oven, it really is quite the pizza experience.
Obviously being a fishing town, the local seafood produce is just spot on, so during our visit the Seafood Basket had to get a run and we loved it. To be honest, there are some regrets we didn’t have a go at their famous Marion Bay Oscar, a 300g Scotch Fillet steak but that will have to wait til next time. Because there will definitely be a next time!
Our little crew had a good range of kids tucker to choose from, with the fish and chips an absolute winner for our little guy. After, as is a bit of a tradition when we visit, a few games on the seated arcade machine was called for before a game of pool and we hit the road.
You will find all your pub favourites of course but don’t forget this is also a Motel, with accomodation options also available as well as a bottle shop. It really is the place to be at the deep south of Yorkes!
Where: 5 Stenhouse Bay Rd, Marion Bay SA 5575(Open Everyday from 10:30am)
Want to treat the family to a meal but worried whether the kids will sit still long enough to enjoy a beer? Tired of the old nuggets and chips kids menu? Looking for a laid-back atmosphere with affordable meal options? If you said ‘yes’ to one or more of these questions, then keep reading. The Settlers Tavern offers families a casual dining experience in the North-East suburbs of Adelaide. Much loved by locals, the huge bistro area serves both lunch and dinner, and by the number of parents with young children that poured through those doors on the night we visited, it's evident that it's a popular choice for families. The feature most youngsters are drawn to first, the indoor playground. Complete with a tunnel slide, naughts and crosses, and little hiding nooks, I guarantee this is where they'll want to play. It's tucked away at the back end of the room and I'd recommend booking a table close by if dining with kids. Next to the playground, you'll find everyone's favourite, the chocolate machine, so bring some coins along too. Recently the Settlers devised a new kids menu and let me just say, they've hit the nail on the…
Find it at: Alison Avenue, Marion Not a bad little backstreet playground this one, which is a good spot for the locals and if you happen to be in the area and the kids need to run off some steam. It has a picnic chair, table and some lovely grassed space which was really nice on the sunny day we visited. Plenty of shade from the trees and the playground has a good variety of equipment to cater for the under 10s mainly. With a nice big twirly slide, swings, lots of monkey bars and other climbing sets to muck around on. The flying fox was a hit with our crew too as was the purple climbing thingy which we couldn't settle on a name for...but it was fun! No toilets, no water fountains, no BBQs sadly, but parking is not an issue here. It isn't fenced either but it is set quite a way off the road so safety wise it isn't much of an issue there either. Our little crew had a great time here so be sure to check it out if you are in the area. Oh it also backs onto Westminster School, so be sure…
