If you haven’t been to The Rezz at Newton since its 2021 rebuild, prepare for a bit of a surprise. This once-traditional suburban pub has had a serious glow-up and is now a go-to for north-eastern Adelaide families thanks to its huge Café, multiple kids’ play areas and easy all-day dining.

The venue is split into four very different zones: the family-friendly Café + Play area (aka where the kids disappear for a while), the stylish Z-Bar & Restaurant, a Sports Bar & Beer Garden for the game day crowd, and a spacious gaming lounge for those late-night sessions.

For families, the real drawcard is the Café + Play areas. Open daily, it’s designed to make dining with kids that little bit easier, with dedicated play areas, spacious indoor and outdoor seating, terraces, lawns and plenty of room for little ones to move around while parents enjoy a coffee or meal.

On our visit, a winter Sunday afternoon saw the venue absolutely buzzing with families. If you enjoy a lively atmosphere, you’ll feel right at home here. The indoor dining space is beautifully styled with warm lighting and modern finishes, while outside you’ll find heaters, lawn games and plenty of seating options to make the most of the outdoor spaces year-round.

Of course, no family pub visit is complete without putting the menu to the test. The wood-fired pizzas are clearly a popular choice here, and after spotting the Salami, Honey & Chilli pizza on the menu, there was no chance we were ordering anything else. Sweet, spicy and loaded with flavour, it was an easy win. We also went for a chicken parmi because, let’s be honest, sometimes you just want a pub classic. Reliable? Definitely. It did the job. Trying to balance things out, we also ordered the Protein Beetroot Salad. If you’re the type who happily works your way through a giant bowl of greens, you’ll love this healthy option.

For the kids, we ordered a kids pizza, butter chicken and nuggets with chips. At $16 a meal, each one comes with a drink and an ice cream cup, which does take the edge off when the bill arrives. And then, because self-control was already gone, we also “had to” try the churros. Warm, sweet and gone in about 30 seconds flat, zero regrets.

The verdict from our crew? Happy kids and full bellies!

Parents will also appreciate the venue’s location, sitting just a short distance from Thorndon Park, making it easy to combine a playground visit with breakfast, lunch or dinner at The Rezz.

For those visiting without kids, the venue also offers the contemporary Z-Bar & Restaurant, serving a Mediterranean-inspired menu and curated drinks list, plus a Sports Bar & Beer Garden with 16 beers on tap, wines, ciders and large-screen sports viewing.

If you’re looking for a family-friendly venue where the kids can play while you relax with a meal, The Rezz is well worth adding to your list.

Shortly after opening, council listened to community feedback and installed several extra shade installations over the play equipment, which we applaud! The new shade will cover the carousel, trampolines, junior slide and swings (see pic at bottom of this page for the new shade locations) Thorndon Park Reserve is set in the beautiful grounds of the historic Thorndon Park Reservoir. On weekends a kiosk opens for snacks, plus a small but interesting heritage museum run by the local Rotary club. It’s best to head there early, go later in the day, or visit during the week if you want to avoid the crowds. ParkingThe main carpark is right near the start of the walks, but it often fills up. If that happens, you can park along Stradbroke Road before the entrance. Just keep in mind it adds about 1.5 km each way to get to the trailhead.
