Monarto Zoo now known as Monarto Safari Park is an AMAZING place where you can get up close and personal with animals, such as; lions, hyenas, giraffes, cheetahs, african painted dogs, zebras and lots more! There’s always plenty to do at the zoo, especially during school holidays. It is recommended you stay for 4-5 hours to enjoy the full experience, so it’s a big day for little kids. When I visited with my nephews we spent 4 hours there, which included giraffe feeding, a home-made picnic, wallabies walk, chimpanzee walk and a Zu-Loop bus tour.
There’s many ways you can spend the day. You can spread your day out with lunch at the Visitor Centre cafe, or bring your own and relax at the picnic benches under the trees in the main visitor area. There’s so much to see and it’s extremely family friendly. Lots of toilets, space for prams on buses, helpful staff everywhere and many different zookeeper presentations throughout the day. The ‘Zu-Loop’ shuttle bus transports people around the park and you can jump on and off as you please. The zookeeper presentations usually start at about 11:00am.
There are also a range of very special “Animal Experiences” available at an extra cost, the highlight being the brand new Lions 360 Experience we were lucky enough to try for ourselves recently
Monarto Zoo offers other exciting opportunities for you to get even closer to some of your favourite animal friends. Experience the thrill of helping put the lions to bed, meeting the chimp troop or hand feed a giraffe! See what’s available here
It’s about a 50-60 minute drive from Adelaide, with bus services available if you would prefer. Contact Link SA if you are interested in a bus service. Last entry to the zoo is at 3pm so please consider this when you are planning your trip. The trip is straight up the freeway, with a new exit off the freeway just past the Callington exit. The zoo is well sign-posted.
There’s also a picnic area, walking tracks, safari tours, shuttle bus, cafe, gift shop and visitor centre. The kids will LOVE it!
There’s BIG PLANS coming soon for Monarto with a first-of-its-kind luxury resort, glamping facilities, and a range of safari experiences. There will be longer visits a new visitor centre and a range of new and wild safari experiences in an area known as Wild Africa including open-sided vehicle tours through herds of roaming animals and a huge walk-through lemur habitat. It all sounds amazing and we CAN’T WAIT!
