Adelaide has a new family friendly park café and we don’t know who is going to love it more…. you, or the kids! Honestly, Puddle Duck is exactly the kind of casual sophistication we’ve come to expect from the clever people behind Peter Rabbit and McGregors. Set right on the lake in Rymill Park, it’s a pretty special spot. Think lush green lawns, shady trees, lake views and plenty of places to settle in, whether you’re grabbing a table, spreading out on a picnic rug or simply letting the kids roam.

And yes, it’s a perfect dining option for families. There are lawn games to keep everyone entertained, resident ducks waddling around the lake and the Quentin Kenihan Inclusive Playground is just a hop, skip and jump away. There’s plenty of space for the kids to stretch their legs and explore (and for prams), so you can settle in with a coffee and actually enjoy the view. Just keep in mind the lake is unfenced, so little ones will need an eye kept on them.

The food is just as good as the setting, with breakfast, brunch and lunch covered by a menu that gives nostalgic café favourites a little Puddle Duck polish. We were particularly impressed by the coffee and the chicken salad, both absolute standouts for us. There are plenty of kid-friendly options too, plus picnic-style plates and treats for grazing. It’s also licensed, so if your idea of a successful park day includes a glass of wine, spritz or cocktail while the kids play, we’re very much on board.

Puddle Duck is open Thursday to Sunday, 8am–3pm, with Lakeside Sessions on Fridays and Sundays from 3pm until sunset, when the daytime café shifts into afternoon drinks, shared bites and lakeside lounging.

Basically, park day… but make it pretty, delicious and just a little bit fancy. This is one Adelaide city café we think you’ll be hearing plenty about.

  • Ever wanted to bite the head off of a T-Rex? Or maybe sip on a delicious chocolate milkshake while under the watchful gaze of a suspended bottle nose dolphin skeleton? Maybe you've never thought about it, but our point is, eating out with kids around Adelaide doesn't have to be expensive, or boring. We love the South Australian Museum, hello FREE, airconditioned, indoor activity. Heading to the Museum Café is a highlight for our family outings. The relaxed atmosphere makes it the perfect spot for a coffee break while the kids enjoy a bite to eat. We love how they offer a variety of options to please everyone’s tastes. From healthy choices like the fresh and vibrant 'Little Dippers Snack Box', packed with fruits, veggies, and dips perfect for little hands, to more indulgent treats like hot dogs and dino nuggets, there's something to keep everyone happy. What we think sets the Museum Café apart is how it combines great food with a fun, educational experience. The kids are fascinated by the museum exhibits, we always have to see the giant squid (any one else?) and after exploring, they’re eager to refuel with a meal that’s as exciting as their…
