Mount Barker Council is planning a brand-new regional adventure play space at the Summit Precinct on Bald Hills Road, right alongside the Summit Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Summit Sport and Recreation Park and close to Laratinga Wetlands.
The vision is for a destination adventure playground designed to encourage exploring, climbing, imagining, challenging yourself and getting stuck into some serious outdoor play.

Mount Barker Council is asking kids, young people and families to help decide what should be included. They’re looking for ideas about what would make an adventure playground somewhere you’d actually want to spend the day from the types of play equipment and challenges to the things that would make it fun for different ages and abilities.
The design will also take inspiration from the surrounding environment, including Laratinga Wetlands, the heritage barns and local cultural stories, so we’re hoping this ends up being something pretty special and unique to the Hills.
There’s still a fair way to go. Community consultation and concept planning will happen throughout late 2026 and early 2027, with the final concept expected around mid-2027. Construction funding hasn’t yet been secured, with delivery currently anticipated for 2028/29, subject to funding.
If your kids have strong opinions about what makes an amazing playground (and let’s face it, they probably do!), now is the time to get involved.
They want to hear your ideas about the play, challenges and experiences that could make the space somewhere people want to explore and keep on coming back to.

This local playground /park is suitable for a mixture of age groups however the play equipment only caters for toddlers. The equipment features a small swing set including baby swing, 2 small slippery dips , a swinging hammock , climbing area and a couple of small play equipment. Half the area is covered by shade .What is great about this park/reserve is that the play equipment area is fenced off, has a good size grassed area and a half key basketball court. Within this area you also have the use of toilets and BBQ facilities. What I also like about this park is that outside the fenced playground area you also have the use of tennis courts and for the pooch lovers there is a huge dog park /sports field. It even has off street parking. Why not bring the family, put a sausage on the BBQ, have a hit of tennis or try for a slam dunk on the basketball key whilst you also get to keep the pooch happy at the dog park. Yee-haw! It’s time to round up the whole family for a meal at the South Eastern Hotel in Mount Gambier. This Limestone Coast town has no shortage of pubs to dine at, but this one surely has to be one of the most family friendly – there really is something for everyone! Older kids can kick back and watch the footy on one of the big screens, younger kids can enjoy the indoor playground and the Mums can enjoy a wine or two (maybe even a cocktail?) in one of the outdoor areas.
