Located outside Brunelli Café at West Lakes Shopping Centre this is a fab spot to sit and have a coffee and watch the kids play. Suitable for older kids and toddlers the playground does have something to cater for a mixture of ages. The main tower features 2 slippery dips for the kids to utilise and can only be accessed via ladder stairs or the bridge. Both require confident climbers. The enclosed silver tubular slide sits at the top with a shorter open slide a little closer to the ground.
The play area features lots of lower climbing ropes for the little ones and there is a hidden sandpit under the tower. The bright blue stepping stones are a favourite with the little ones and are great for practicing balancing. In this area you will also find some tunnels for the kids to explore in, along with a bouncy animal.
The playground is shaded, and there are toilets in the shopping centre but it is not fully fenced. You need to be mindful there is a busy road directly behind the playground. It is a great playground to visit before or after shopping or just to come for a play. Parking is free for the first 2 hours. Brunelli Cafe is great for coffee or something to eat and is in a great spot to watch the kids.
Find it at: Rodgers Terrace, Maitland On the corner of Rogers Terrace and Robert St in Maitland there is a great combination playground. It boasts both the typical metal/plastic style playground with a large wooden climbing section. There is a spinning ride (although beware after rain as it fills with water), swings, a big slide, a digger and climbing equipment. It is surrounded by fence for most of the playground with just a small gap for entering (not secure). It has a car park, shaded seating, a free bbq, a double cricket pitch and it's just a short walk to nearby toilets.Fun for the whole family!
Find it at: Tiranna Way, West Lakes. Talk about location, location, location! We often forget we have an incredible lake over at West Lakes which provides some of the most beautiful scenery in town. This is a spectacular spot which if you visit on a nice day like we did, will make you feel like you are on holiday at some sort of fancy resort. There were a lot of things we loved about this one. The view of course. Obviously! But we loved the sandy beach and the little diggers (lovely surprise they were!), the shade sails were fantastic, the grassed area is great for a picnic or a lay down on a towel plus there is a bike track around the lake to top off the visit! Perfect. A few things to note though, it isn't fenced. A big issue with the nearby water so take note of that. Coffee (very important detail) is highly recommended from 'Old Habits' at the end of the road. There are toilets thankfully but no BBQ areas, which is a bit odd as it is THE perfect BBQ spot. Bring a rug too as there is hardly any seating. The playground is…
Find it at: Stansbury Rd, Yorketown Yorketown Playground is absolutely massive and there is something for everyone. When you arrive you'll notice there's plenty of parking, there's an information booth for the area and some unique art around the place. Once you've parked you'll see a large playground area, a toilet block, a bbq with a shaded seating area and a short walk away, a big lake. We decided to check out the lake first and on our walk down there, discovered nature play spaces for climbing and exploring as well as many little creatures for children to take delight in. The lake is beautiful and there are walking paths you can take. Once back at the playground you will discover a Loch Ness Monster, flower photo booth, challenging play equipment for all ages and a stunning artwork of 2 rosellas. We stayed and played for well over an hour as it's perfect for kids and big kids (if you get my drift ;-))
