If ever something deserved its own day, chocolate has to be right up there. World Chocolate Day is celebrated on July 7 each year and given Adelaide has so many fantastic purveyors of the sweet cocoa treat, we took one for the team [that’s you guys] and volunteered our tastebuds this World Chocolate Day to sample some South Australia’s BEST!

Also? Chocolate makes the easiest to buy, most indulgent gift for every occasion!

Geez our kids do it tough sometimes don’t they…

Some of these brands/ businesses I’m sure you’re all familiar with, but this list also has a few unrecognised names too, which are just as deserving to be here. Each chocolate that we have tried has a store/s or online stores based right here in Adelaide…. so come on, do your bit to support local this week and get on the chocolate.

Barossa Valley Chocolate Company

With over 250 chocolates in their range, you will be just about guaranteed to find something that takes your fancy. We only tried about 5 different types of their choccie range, but loved them all! By those odds, we reckon we would get around their entire range and the next time we are in Tanunda, we will be making a stop at their store for an absolute chocolate experience. We just found these to be simply sensational, with the whole fam loving them.

Have a look at the photos of the purpose built choclate consumption arena, with spectacular views and to-die-for treats. To be honest after trying a sampling of these at home, we are just dying to take a drive to the Barossa and check out every thing they have to offer.

Melbas Chocolates in Woodside, Adelaide Hills Melba's Chocolate Factory is located just past the main shopping area of Woodside, about 40mins east of Adelaide in the Adelaide Hills. It is a great place to take the family on a day trip or main destination around which to plan a few hours in the Hills one day. When we were kids I spent a LOT of time helping myself to the samples at Melba's as my sister used to ride horses at one of the nearby properties and I had a lot of spare time to kill in the area. I was always fascinated to watch the process of making the chocolate, toffee traffic lights and other delicious goodies (the samples were an added bonus!). The current site is known as 'Heritage Park' and houses Melba's Chocolate Factory and a range of other cottage industries such as the next door Cheese Factory, so there really is something for everyone here. The factory has been transformed into a large emporium styled…

  • Our team at Kids in Adelaide are passionate about World Donut Day. Nobody hates a donut (especially not kids, or Tim). Possibly the most important food in our South Australian economy, demonstrated regularly when referencing any country town by the quality of the bakery before anything else. Also every bakery lives or dies by its donuts. Case closed. Donuts are King. SO, the first Friday in June is International Donut Day (or doughnut for the purists). Falling slightly behind Christmas and miles ahead of Valentines Day as THE most important holiday of the calendar year, this is a great occasion to celebrate our favourite food and to also give praise to the fabulous makers of these delicious round delights....the bakeries. Our team of Adelaide kids (ahem and Tim) have again done the miles last month, eaten the good, the better and the best that we can find this year, so save this post, refer back to it on your weekend drives or prior your playground dates and birthday parties! We are pretty pumped to have significantly changed our lineup this year, including sourdough options, vegan options, gluten free options and even a donut option for your dog! Not kidding. Feel…

We have collated the best spots in Adelaide & beyond to enjoy a delicious ice cream, gelati, gelato, frozen yoghurt or even acai treat with the kids! Whether you're into classic scoops and flavours like vanilla, chocolate or mint chocolate chip, or like something a bit fancy like peach and white chocolate (yes we recently found that) we've done the hard work for you and found the best spots to visit. Plus, does anything make your kids behave better than the promise of an ice cream at the end of the day? We didn't think so. Now for the big question Adelaide ice cream fans: cup or cone?
