Let’s talk about Adelaide’s best pizza. We really have lifted the pizza benchmark over the past decade and kids *generally* love a slice of the good stuff don’t they? It’s quick, filling and often one of the more affordable take away options. Let’s not forget cold left over pizza makes a brilliant school lunch box treat and you know the easiest way to feed friends, teenagers or energetic kids at a birthday party….. you guessed it, PIZZA!
Pizza can be as sophisticated or as simple as the setting dictates, from fine dining through to sitting on the lounge watching trashy reality TV with a cardboard box on your lap. From eat in urban industrial warehouse venues to hole in the wall pick ups. It really is the perfect food. But where to find the best of the best, those pizza places you hear about from a friend of a friend, the pizza of legends! Well never fear, we have scoured the state to find some of the best pizza in South Australia. From franchise favourites through to traditional Italian fare, pizza lovers this is the post for you!
Avellino Pizza
Bandit Pizza + Wine Bar
Got a pizza hankering that also calls for superb wine and a sopisticated atmosphere? This little spot on Unley Road at Hyde Park is the one for you, and while kids are welcome and highchairs are available, there is no official kids menu as such. Every thing is cooked with fire here, no gas to be seen. Our kids LOVED the garlic bread (hello buttery black garlic dribbling down my wrists) and the salami pizza was a massive hit, so much so, the left overs had to go in the school lunch box the next day.
Now, if you are familiar with Adelaide’s ‘Big Easy Group’ (think cult following – Anchovy Bandit, Bottega Bandito + Bowden Brewing) you’ll expect the same on fleek quality food and service here and you won’t be disapointed. Venue manager Jacko tells us that Bandit Pizza is all about tradition, but not being bound by it, and that’s exactly how we found it, traditional, but also quirky and *mind blowing* quality. Of course if pizza isn’t your thing (1. lame and 2. why the hell are you actually reading a pizza feature?) the menu offers some weird and wonderful options for you too. Plus a wine list that God him self would struggle to select from. Choose it for your date night, Mums night out, take away pizza or pizza with kids who actually like real pizza and are able to sit at a table in a restaurant with out Paw Patrol blaring on an ipad.
Aldgate Pump Hotel
This beautiful historic family run Adelaide Hills pub is a complete surprise package. Could this be the best pizza in the hills? They are surely a hot contender with the recent install of a beautiful Italian wood fire oven.
The kids will love it here with a large beer garden and a playground out the back.
Every night is pizza night at the Aldgate Pump Hotel, but Monday nights are HALF PRICE PIZZAS from 4pm and you simply can’t beat that for value.
Make sure you book, especially in these busier months.
One Sneaky Cheetah
If you haven’t jumped on Adelaide’s One Sneaky Cheetah bandwagon yet, do you even love pizza? They now have THREE venues operating, Melrose Park, Ridleyton and the brand new super large impressive premises at Stepney.
Made from scratch, hand stretched, wood fired and ready fast – these pizzas are big, simple and completely delicious. Our kids LOVE them and love the ‘Garlic Cheetah Tails’ equally. The venues are fun, you can play pinball while you wait (will be a quick game we tell you) and have a gelato if you eat your crusts!
BOBBiS Bar and Restaurant – Hilton Hotel
Recently renovated and reopened, BOBBiS Bar and Restaurant at The Hilton Hotel, Mile End is fast becoming known in the western suburbs for their iconic wood oven pizzas and Italian influenced sharing plates. The food here is simple, uncomplicated and utterly delicious. The kids can watch their pizza being cooked and the entire set up is nothing short of impressive!
Doughballs
Never been to Doughballs? You are missing out one of the best family friendly food options around! With their popular Moseley Square location down at Glenelg and now with a new spot out at Mawson Lakes, you are never far from tasting some of the insanely more-ish, delicate balls of pizza goodness.
We highly recommend testing out both the savoury and dessert doughball options, and their traditional pizzas are top shelf too! So what are you waiting for? Book in that return visit or get on down there for the first time…you can thank us later.

Remy’s Deep Dish
We have long dreamt of tucking into those deep dish pizzas you see on the US TV shows, and thankfully the talented team from CREAM at Brighton have come to the rescue, with their new venture Remy’s Deep Dish a must for the Adelaide pizza lover.
This really is an experience for the whole family, with plenty of menu options to sort out the fussiest eater. Located just off Rundle Mall, Remy’s has quickly jumped to one of our top spots to try out with the fam and some of the best pizza in town!

Rocco Pizza – Italian Sourdough
A visit to Rocco Pizza is a pizza experience. Italian sourdough, traditionally made by the magnificently passionate Rocco, woodfired to perfection and a finer pizza you will struggle to find.
A Western suburbs icon, Rocco learnt his craft in Rome and having opened multipe restaurants around the world, his recipe is just about perfection. The thin crust sourdough is made with just 3 ingredients, flour, water and salt and the toppings and spot on. No cutlery is required here, with scissors provided to cut up the thin crust and you just have to have a Peroni to wash it down. Would be rude not too.
Word of warning to those pineapple lovers (not us), do not ask for the usual ham and pineapple here, it is not traditional and is not offered at all. Now if that isn’t enough to get you excited, the dessert pizza was so good we lost control of our gross motor functions and dropped our phone into the dripping nutella, berrries and gelato delight (still tasted amazing!)
Pizza lovers….this is the place you will drive from all across town to check out.

Chicco Palms Hot Pizza Shop
Hit up this retro vibe venue for the best pizzas that we can find on Henley Beach Road! Take away or kick back in the restaurant with a cocktail or two. Chicco’s are open Tuesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner. It’s also become quite the on fleek venue for private hires and last thing, their take home pizza making kits are an absolute hit with the kids. Pick one up these school holidays.

Here is a small family business, making damn fine pizza, that give and give and give to their local community. We see them feeding people and pumping up and supporting other businesses all of the time. There is always a good value deal here and the pizza is fresh, authentic great quality and honestly, an absolute bargain. Find them at 414 Milne Road, Redwood Park. Try their famous YIROS pizza!

After our most recent visit, we have some new favourite pizzas – the pear and blue cheese pizza is to die for and the sweet potato pizza hits all the right spots.

Ember Pizza
Ah the Barossa, how lucky are we to have such incredible mouth watering restaurants in this famous region, but still easy driving distance from the city. For that special pizza experience, you cannot go past Ember Pizza. Located in the heart of Nuriootpa in a lovely old Penfolds building that presents as a hub of eclectic, genuine Barossa food, beverage and tourism experiences.
A must do if you are travelling with others, as there is bound to be something here that is sure to please every one, including food and a decent lawn + indoor or outdoor dining, perfet with the kids! The venue, service and menu options (heavily weighted with local fare) provided us with the casual sophistication that we were chasing for our Barossa (with kids) experience. Equally it offered space, a cracking uncomplicated kids menu PLUS an activity or two to keep them occupied while the adults confirmed our weekend itineraries over a wine (of course.)

Smiling Samoyed Brewery
Pizza and Beer. Beer and Pizza. They kinda’ go hand in hand right?…
This family owned brewery are dishing out the goods at Myponga with a selection of mouth watering wood oven pizzas. Made using SA Lauke flour which is fermentated for a minimum of three days to give it a delicious depth of flavour, these 11 inch bad boys are the real deal. Thin crusts baked to perfection and although they’re made to be shared, polishing one off on your own is just too damn easy!
Our top pick: Chilli Chorizo Pizza – OMG!
