Find it at: Wycombe Street, Underdale

This place was such a secret it took us years of playground hunting to find it! Located on the river linear park at Underdale, this playground is for the little kids around the 3-5 year mark. We loved the fireman’s pole and the two small forts and bridges, with a lot of cool climbing equipment for which is just the height for those pre-school kids.

We always love a flying fox, but this one was a bit too high for the little ones so a tip we picked up was to use a jumper to hook over the handles and drag it around. Problem solved! The back streets are nice and quiet but there is a busy bike path nearby so keep an eye out for passing bikes. There isn’t any seats, bins, shade, BBQs or fencing but it is a great little spot.

p.s We don’t know who Charlie was but thanks for the playground buddy!

  • Find it at: Arbury Park Road, Bridgewater ** Update February 2020 ** Unfortunately since we first posted about the Bridgewater Fairy Garden there have been some nasty trolls on the lose who have been in and stolen, broken or vandalised some of the fairy houses BUT we found out that there's still some left to see and it's still a cute way to spend an hour or two exploring somewhere new. If your kids are keen on fairies, magic, imagination or just getting outdoors, they will love this place. It's located at Deanery Reserve near Arbury Park. For specific directions see notes at the bottom of this post. Thanks to @ThatLittleNook for the update and the photos! Follow the Heyson Trail about 50m towards the freeway from the carpark and you'll find the main Fairy Garden with about 10 little doors from 5-15cm tall. The Garden (shown above) has been growing over the last 6 months and is now well established on the side of the track and easily seen by all. Walkers, visitors and fairy fans have all been adding their own touch to the Garden with everything from hand rails up the steep steps, to animal statues, updated…

  • Find it at: Brunelli Cafe, West Lakes Located outside Brunelli Café at West Lakes Shopping Centre this is a fab spot to sit and have a coffee and watch the kids play. Suitable for older kids and toddlers the playground does have something to cater for a mixture of ages. The main tower features 2 slippery dips for the kids to utilise and can only be accessed via ladder stairs or the bridge. Both require confident climbers. The enclosed silver tubular slide sits at the top with a shorter open slide a little closer to the ground. The play area features lots of lower climbing ropes for the little ones and there is a hidden sandpit under the tower. The bright blue stepping stones are a favourite with the little ones and are great for practicing balancing. In this area you will also find some tunnels for the kids to explore in, along with a bouncy animal. The playground is shaded, and there are toilets in the shopping centre but it is not fully fenced. You need to be mindful there is a busy road directly behind the playground. It is a great playground to visit before or after shopping…
