  • South Australia is blessed with stunning family friendly beaches, and scattered around the metro and regional areas of Adelaide are beaches you can drive on! An iconic South Australian family day out, taking the car onto the beach for a day (and filling the car with sandy feet on the way out) is one of our favourite things to do on a hot Adelaide day. We are blessed as one of only two states where beach driving is unregulated, so respecting the environment and reducing our impact on local wildlife is important for this to remain an activity our kids can enjoy well into the future. Most local councils will have rules specific to their beaches and rules for driving. Not all beaches are suitable for all vehicles and some will be 4x4 access only. Conditions will vary dramatically so before heading out, check local council, tide and weather guides for conditions that may impact your day out. Aim to drive at low tide and allow enough time to return before the turn of the tide. For up to the minute weather forecasts, jump on the Bureau of Meteorology page and for daily fire warnings, the CFS will have you…

  • Glenthorne Nature Play Space Find it at: Majors Road, O'Halloran Hill Located within Glenthorne National Park-Ityamaiitpinna Yarta, this multi-million dollar nature playground has quickly become a favourite for Adelaide families, and honestly, it’s easy to see why. Opened in 2022, this incredible play space combines adventure, imagination, inclusive design and nature play in one huge family-friendly destination. What we love most about Glenthorne Nature Play Space is that it truly caters for all ages. While younger kids will adore the swings, sand play and cubby-building opportunities, older kids are absolutely going to love the giant climbing structures, flying foxes and enormous tube slide tower. It’s the kind of playground where you can easily spend hours exploring. The thoughtfully designed nature play space was created by Adelaide playground specialists Climbing Tree Creations, alongside TCL and Phillips Pilkington Architects, with a strong focus on open-ended adventure play, accessibility and connection with the natural environment. Throughout the playground you’ll find salvaged timber, rocks, natural creek beds and climbing elements that encourage kids to explore, create and move freely through the space. The towering slide structures were inspired by the hollow red gums found along South Australian river systems, giving the playground a uniquely…

  • The Marion Coastal Walkway will take you all the way from Marino Rocks through to Hallett Cove, a total of 7.2 kms and with the newly opened multi-million dollar dual suspension bridges, the walk is now even more spectacular. The views are incredible and you can stop and head down the stairs to the beach to explore the small sea creatures and ancient rock faces when you need a break. The trail is open to the elements and there are beautiful, sweeping views so you will need to stop now and then to have a look around. This trail has some winding and uneven stairs and is more suitable to older kids, probably 8+, unless you have a small child you can take in a child carrier. It's great exercise and we often go just half way for some peaceful exercise with great views. Now, with our three little children aged 4, 2 and 4 months, we often park at the top of Dutchman Drive then walk down the easy path towards the slow flowing creek in Hallett Cove Conservation Park. It's an easy walk (downhill), but not really suitable for a pram so make sure you take the baby…
