Opened in April 2024 in the heart of the enormous Riverlea development in Adelaide’s north, this fantastic playground offers something for all ages. It doesn’t have toilets and isn’t fully fenced, however is tucked in the suburbia so that might not be an issue for everyone. A lack of decent coffee nearby was something we noticed, but as the development grows we expect this will change.
Featuring;
Plenty of green space to kick a footy
Loved the fast medium sized slide and the high firmans pole plus a family swing for three people
Play equipment for all ages and with some accessible equipment
High net top walk
BBQ and seating
Big scramble logs
Spanning over 5000sqm, this is a sensational play space for families out north.

Find it at: Julian Terrace, Gawler The $190k Inclusive playspace at Gawler opened to the public in May 2024, is a fantastic addition to the popular Gawler family hotspot. Chosen by the community, the playspace design derives from the three Rivers that run through Gawler, reflecting upon the importance of water to the area, both past and present. The new accessible walkway represents Para River, connecting the existing two main entrances to four new inclusive play zones, which sit along the banks of the walkway like mini billabongs. Each billabong targets several types of play, to help encourage a variety of play experiences for all ages and abilities. The realisation of the Apex Park Inclusive Playspace was made possible through a collaborative effort, with grant funding and a contribution from the Town of Gawler.
Find it at: Hamilton Terrace, Paradise Thorndon Park playground has been voted Australia's Best Playground (Winner of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects award for best play space 2023) The upgraded (in 2023) playground at Thorndon Park is amazing! A hen (water play sculpture), wren (climbing structure) and crane (swing) now call the park home and don't forget the biggest bird, a heron (slide structure), which takes centre stage. The park’s other facilities are also first class, including walking paths, BBQs, toilets, rotunda, pavilion, ovals, exercise equipment, picnic shelters and the carpark. Shortly after opening, council listened to community feedback and installed several extra shade installations over the play equipment, which we applaud! The new shade will cover the carousel, trampolines, junior slide and swings (see pic at bottom of this page for the new shade locations) Thorndon Park Reserve is set in the beautiful grounds of the historic Thorndon Park Reservoir. On weekends a kiosk opens for snacks, plus a small but interesting heritage museum run by the local Rotary club. There are plenty of walking and bike/scooter riding options around the playground, the reservoir and surrounding parklands. Other highlights of our visits are flying kites up on the…
Find it at: 46 California Avenue, Craigmore Fancy an open space that's not too BUSY but still good enough to entertain any age kids? This might be one worth checking out! We ventured a little further North to visit California Reserve and we're so glad we did! Upgraded in 2022, the space was relatively quiet, making a nice change to the busier playgrounds we normally frequent. The reserve showcases a variety of things to do for public and with the installation of a new toilet block, it's easy to see how families can easily spend an afternoon here. There's a super cool playground, a basketball court, lots of green grass to run or kick a ball, two BBQ/ undercover sitting areas, exercise equipment, and a nature play area with plenty of beautiful trees throwing some much needed shade in the warmer months. The playground itself features a climbing frame which wasn't dauntingly huge but just high enough that the main slide was a great size. There's also a smaller slide for the little ones and some steps nearby for easy access. Complete with a see-saw, a spinning merry-go-round, a trampoline, a nest swing, a car and bike rocker and an…
