Find it at: Corner Canterbury Terrace and Byron Road, Black Forest

Princess Margaret Playground, Black Forest, is fully fenced, has lots of grassed area to plonk your picnic rug on and offers bbq facilities too. Awesome for families with kids from 0-5years, especially those with young toddlers and an older child as there is something for a range of ages (up to about 9years) plus plenty of space for a soccer game etc. The smaller kids will love the climbing frame with small slide, a number of climbing areas and soft fall underneath.

There are numerous swings – including the full enclosed/twin swing – a larger slide for bigger kids, rockers and a ‘spinner’. Our kids also loved the sand pit with climbing castle and secured sand scoops for plenty of fun.

Princess Margaret Playground has good, clean toilets, plenty of seating and kids will enjoy the shady parts too. A great place to kick the footy, have a picnic, run around and soak up our beautiful Adelaide weather. You will find public transport close by, or plenty of parking if you choose to drive. The train line runs directly behind the playground area so kids who love trains will be entertained and safe in this fully fenced train watching park! There are also a couple of good coffee shops just up the road – perfect for you to enjoy while the kids play.

  • Find it at: Ash Avenue, Unley What an absolute beauty this place is! Talk about a hidden gem that I am sure the locals would want to keep that way. A beautiful, fully fenced play space featuring a lovely playground, sandpits, swings and a heap of smaller play equipment scattered around the park. One thing I found amazing was all the toys left lying around, which are free for everyone to use and return once they are finished. How fantastic! Sand pits are fun but sand pits plus toys is way funner! Definitely aimed at the younger kids, the playground is perfect (and under shade!) for the under 8s, with climbing equipment and a nice size slide for the young ones. Lots of trees add to the beautiful setting and plenty of grass to run around (and paths for riding scooters and bikes). Parking is not bad, with quiet back streets on both sides of the park but there aren't any toilets here sadly. What a fantastic facility for the locals and so well cared for too. A real delight this one.

  • Find it at: Trimmy Terrace, Unley The City of Unley consulted with the "playground experts" to help them upgrade the Unley Oval playground. During community consultation with local residents, the City of Unley specifically sought suggestions from children in the area about what they would like to see incorporated into the improved playground, atop the northern mound at Unley Oval, known as the ‘Hilltop Playground’. 93 children from local schools and kindergartens offered their suggestions with most popular ideas including an aeroplane, haunted house, castle, pirate ship, nature play and incorporating animal designs such as elephants, spiders, cats and unicorns. (YES! playgrounds DEFINITELY need more unicorns we say!) The kids love the new multi-story structure with giant 3m tube slide, a toddler slide, climbing wall and a bird's eye view across the whole oval. There is also a great 'balanced swing/see-saw' that both kids and adults can enjoy at the same time.
