The Suburban Brew
Glynde Brewery & Taproom, the newest addition to the craft beer scene, opened its doors in December 2022.
With a warm and inviting atmosphere in its industrial warehouse setting, this family-friendly venue stands out with its dedicated Kids Zone, offering toys, games, and soon-to-be-added cubby house. While the little ones are entertained, adults can enjoy a wide selection of beers from the bar’s 10+ taps.
The owner and brewer, Tony, has created a relaxed space at Glynde Brewery & Taproom where people can come together, allowing kids to be kids without worry. With both indoor and outdoor picnic tables, families can gather for board games, while everyone, young and old, can enjoy activities like corn hole, pool, and pinball. Prancing Pony Brewery
Its hard to believe that Prancing Pony has only been around for 10 years because in such an incredibly short space of time, they have planted their flag on the local beer landscape so firmly that its hard to remember a time when they weren’t around!
Located a stones throw off the Mt Barker turn off up the freeway, the spacious warehouse vibe with all the brewshed kit on display in all its magnificent splendour is right up our alley and Corinna and Frank have succeeded in that rare double….a superb family friendly venue but also a top spot to visit for an adult treat.

Swell Brewing Co.
Swell Brewing Co. down at McLaren Vale is one of those places you take the kids, where you breathe a huge sigh of relief when you realise that not only is it a sensational venue for all the adulting you need (all the beer barons on the KiA team give their products a huge thumbs up!), but they actually recognise the value in a high quality family friendly venue. The spacious grassed area is just the bees knees on a lazy Spring arvo, with plenty of room and lawn games for the kids to test out.
When you head inside, check out a beer paddle or two while the family tuck into a really well put togther menu. Burgers are top shelf (and we try a lot of burgers!) and even the pickiest of your offspring will enjoy expanding their pallette, with our mob recommending the chicken tenderloins and battered garfish. The kids are also well and truly looked after indoors, with plenty of colouring activities and table games to check out.
Oh if your kids love to pat every dog that comes within a 20m radius of them like ours, they will just adore inhouse pup Mikey Wright (a gorgeous bulldog named after the pro surfer). This is one of the best and gets top marks from us. Have a look at our full feature here for more pics and info, or email them at taphouse@swellbeer.com.au to make a booking.
The Bond Store
Bond Store is a relatively new spot over in Wallaroo on the Copper Coast of Yorkes. It’s a place that honestly, has it all and is pretty unexpected for a regional town. The premises is a huge multi level property, including the main Bond Store restaurant, distillery (downstairs) and microbrewery as well as two accommodation spaces. It’s hard to fully comprehend all that this place has to offer for you and your group on your trip.
The open kitchen and menu blew us away. Plus, open kitchen – nothing to hide – you HAVE to be brilliant. This kitchen has a talented multi cultural team that shines through brilliantly on the menu. The food is nothing short of brilliant, featuring quality, local produce craftfully prepared with a number of dishes cooked on the custom-made parrilla charcoal grill. Get the prawns. You can choose to share a selection of plates – tapas style, or if you wish, you can indulge in it all by yourself. On the ground floor you will find a large space for dining and their brewery bar, with their impressive stainless brewing tanks on display for customers to see. Kids will love seeing it, asking you 100 questions that you probably can’t answer and also watching the busy kitchen staff. So fun. No one is getting bored here, and if they do – the team will be more than happy to whip out some colouring in sheets.

Watsacowie Brewery
What is a cowie…..? Great question and you can find out the answers behind the name of this business + a bit of local knowledge when you visit this epic family friendly BELTER of a craft brewery. Located in Minlaton on the Yorke Peninsula about two and a half hours from Adelaide, you’ll find your self surrounded by the wholesome goodness of many, many Yorke Peninsula activities and attractions that are great with kids and even better washed down with one of these beers.
You will love the casual, funky, relaxed open air feel of this ‘beer shed’ (Can we call it a beer shed?) With loads of indoor seating, a cosy fireplace and plenty of outdoor tables too. It feels like a bit of a hub for the community, but also a solid asset to local tourism. There’s no kitchen at this brewery, but check in with the Watsacowie website, or social media accounts, as they often have the best of the local food trucks serving up top beer nosh. We fully lucked it with YP Wood Oven Pizzas on our visit and that sure kept the kids happy so as Dad (that’s me) could enjoy his exceptional (and well earned – because gaawd traveling with kids is more of an adventure than a holiday isn’t it…..) beer paddle.

Pirate Life Brewing
Pirate Life Brewing in Adelaide is a godsend for beer-loving parents like us! Sometimes, we just need a damn strong drink to survive parenthood, you know? And Pirate Life totally gets it. They welcome families and even fur babies, because let’s face it, our four-legged pals are part of the crew too!
Providing a relaxed atmosphere where kids can play in the beer garden while parents enjoy their brews, with 24 beers on tap, including limited releases, as well as a selection of wine, spirits, and cocktails, there’s something to satisfy every palate. The food at Pirate Life goes beyond typical pub fare. Chef Rocky Oliveira creates fresh and light dishes perfect for sharing, such as the delicious Grilled Squid with Yuzo Kosho dressing. The kids’ menu offers simple and satisfying options, and a giant choc chip cookie with ice cream awaits as a delightful treat.
Pirate Life also offers guided tours of their warehouse and has a unique feature called Pirate Life Parlour, a barber shop where you can get a haircut or shave while enjoying a beer. The brewery is open seven days a week with easy off-street parking, although it’s advisable to book ahead on busy weekends.

With a spacious and relaxed industrial venue, visitors can enjoy up to ten rotating taps offering seasonal ales, lagers, and limited release beers. Or if you can’t decide, have a paddle! Sunday’s live music is a highlight, and families can take advantage of the adjacent lawn and other fun activities at the Tourism Centre. Non-beer drinkers need nor worry, there’s also SA artisan gins, wines, and non-alcoholic options for the little ones too.
So next time you’re on the Yorke Peninsula, make sure you swing past for a beer or two!
Grunthal Brew
Visit this one on a sunny spring day and its actual heaven on earth. Visit on a wet day and you’ll be delighted to find a fireplace doing a great job of keeping the space warm and cosy, surrounded by couches. The main dining area, ‘The Great Hall’, includes tables, booths, bar tables, and also offers the ‘Grünthal Greenhouse’ for private functions.
The menu at Grünthal is definitely a step up from standard brewery fare! There are a great range of small plates, pizzas, and specials on offer. Udder Delights cheeses are well represented, with a delicious cheese fondue, a ‘Too Cheesy’ deep dish pizza, and even the humble toastie is made with Truffle Cheddar. We enjoyed a pizza, fried chicken and mac and cheese for the little ones, and a delectable cheese board. The real star of the menu for the kids was the dessert (of course) – an extra special sundae topped with Persian fairy floss. For the adults, the beers speak for them selves…….
Forktree Brewing
You can see it now can’t you? Warm Summer evening sun setting over the gorgeous rolling hills of the southern Fleurieu, the kids enjoying the grassed area and playground, while you sit up high on the deck beer in hand. Sounds good doesn’t it. Located down at Carrickalinga, this fabulous family friendly spot has grown rapidly since their opening 3 years ago into a fantastic venue known for top notch hospitality and strong community spirit.
The selection of beers will keep the adults well and truly happy, whilst the kids will have an absolute ball. Whether it be in the sandpit, on the playground or trying out the range of lawn games, the family market will love it here. Kids will love the food, with plenty of variety on offer to satisfy the fussiest of eaters. This isn’t basic pub fare, so they are in for a real treat!

Shifty Lizard Micro Brewery
Ditch metro Adelaide and the big craft brewery crowds with their massive schmancy venues and on fleek Gen Y FOH staff, (who probably wouldn’t know a mash conversion from a ferment tank, let alone how to engage with your kids over lunch, lets be honest) for a genuine grass roots type small batch micro brewery, distillery and taphouse. Shifty are serving up some of the tastiest brews and beer nosh getting around. Enter family lunch at Willunga. You guys know with kids it pays to check ahead that there will be something on the menu to keep them happy (pleased to report there was) and better still that there are some games and colouring and oh you know, a resident lizard to meet. Tick, tick, tick. These guys also have highchairs and baby change table in a very clean bathroom.
Not only was there a simple kids menu of nuggs and juice, the style of their ‘beer food’ would generally appeal to kids any way. Think extensive options for gourmet hot dogs, decedent loaded fries every way imaginable, wings, sides and more. Yum – come hungry the portion sizes are pretty epic and the prices are VERY fair. From a family friendly point of view, this place was comfortable and welcoming.
We totally get around their beer paddles, quality gin cocktails (non-beer drinkers sorted) and the food is top notch. Plus you get to just soak in the Willunga vibe, try out the Main Street shops and make day of it.
