If you’re looking for an easy and delicious family dining experience in Adelaide, Mandarin Duck at Westfield Tea Tree Plaza needs to be on your radar. Conveniently located in the central dining hub (right near Hoyts), this fresh and modern Chinese restaurant has quickly become a go-to for families who love great food, comfy seating, and a stress-free meal out with the kids.
Why We Love It for Families
The location alone is a win, whether you’re grabbing a bite after doing the shops over or heading in for dinner before a movie, it fits perfectly into a family day out. And here’s the kicker… there’s a mini playground right out the front. The kids can burn off some pre-dinner energy while you finish placing your order. Parenting gold.
Inside, the booth seating makes dining feel cosy and comfortable (especially great with toddlers who like to stretch out). The staff were warm, welcoming and genuinely lovely, the kind of place where families are clearly very much encouraged to relax and enjoy their meal.
The Food
The menu has loads to choose from, and we LOVED that it is a visual menu, this really helped the kids. Whether you’re craving dumplings, noodles, classics like honey chicken, or something fresh and veggie-packed, there’s loads to select from. The kids menu was a big hit with our crew, – think honey chicken with steamed rice or fried rice with chicken, served on the cutest panda plates, complete with a pop-top juice. Simple, tasty, familiar, and honestly adorable.
For grown ups, there’s plenty to explore too – fresh flavours, generous portions, and something for every taste.
Our Verdict
Mandarin Duck is easy, delicious, kid-approved, and perfectly placed for a fun family outing. Make it part of your movie night tradition or make it your new “we can’t be bothered cooking” dinner spot… it’s one to try.
Family score: 10/10 for convenience, atmosphere and cute panda plates!

Fancy your next family friendly meal with a side of gangsta rap? We certainly don’t mind a cheeky burger or two, so when we heard the news that Milky Lane was coming to Adelaide our ears pricked up immediately and like many we waited eagerly for the doors to open. If you’ve been living under a rock and for some unknown reason are unfamiliar with Milky Lane (like seriously, where have you been?) then here’s all you need to know. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Rundle Street, Milky Lane is not just a burger joint; it's a celebration of hip hop and R&B culture serving stacked-to-the-max, grandiose burgers, and a dash of delicious over-the-top food. When you walk in the door, a two-level open space awaits with what can only be described as a star-studded wall adorned with murals of hip-hop royalty including Jay Z, 50 Cent, Biggie Smalls, Rihanna, and Kanye West. The ambiance is borderline edgy, with an aesthetic that's actually as cool as the carefully curated playlists, regular DJs, and live music that help to elevate the experience and really shape the Milky Lane brand identity. Kids are well catered for with a colouring-in sheet and…
A South Australian icon for more than 55 years, the Pancake Kitchen always makes me nostalgic for my childhood. It was so exciting to head to that nook of Gilbert St & be allowed to eat pancakes for dinner! I can still smell the maple syrup & remember looking at the menu wondering who on earth would eat bacon on pancakes (adult me, that's who). Does anyone else remember the jukebox out in the back room? The original Spotify! It may have changed a bit since then, but The Original Pancake Kitchen is still a hit with kids & makes the perfect family dining spot. It is also now in THREE different locations across Adelaide. The original Gilbert St restaurant has had little pancake babies (pikelets?) & is now also found in Modbury & now inside the Marion Cultural Centre. Of course, it goes without saying that the pancakes are amazing. There are so many different options to choose from including sweet & savory options in small, regular or tall stacks. If pancakes aren't your thing, you can grab something from the all-day breakfast menu or is you need some meat on your plate, Pancake Kitchens also double as a…
We may have just found Adelaide's most charming, family friendly spot to eat, that caters to both parents and kids. White Picket Coffee House, on the Eastern city fringe, serves up some brilliant kid-friendly menu options in a spacious setting with a choice of indoor tables, enclosed verandah tables, or our favourite, the rear courtyard/ garden setting complete with a sweet little cottage style cubby house! I think the fact that the rear courtyard had every table filled while we were there really shows how much of a winner this place is! The coffee here is top-notch. Each cup is brewed to perfection using quality beans, leaving you with that rich and satisfying taste we all crave. Plus, their breakfast, brunch, and lunch options are to die for! With initiatives like "Pasta Fridays", it's the perfect way to end the week. On top of that, their ready-made meals to collect for dinner or work lunches are a godsend, making busy weekdays a breeze. Parents, you'll be thrilled to know that they've got your little ones covered too. The kids' hot chocolates are made to perfection - just the right temperature to keep those tiny taste buds happy. And speaking of…
