The incredible upgrade at Wigley Reserve at Glenelg is an outstanding attraction for an already pretty awesome area.
Sometimes fantastic photos do a far better job at telling a story and this is absolutely one of those occasions. Check out how good it looks!
The old playground is long gone and has been replaced with this impressive looking structure that really does catch the eye as you approach Wigley Reserve.
It is important to note that the playground is now only partially fenced (locals would remember the old shaded plastic playground was fully fenced) on the Pat river side only. It is fully open on the grassed reserve side so you will need to keep your wits about you here as the water is pretty close.
The old ‘plastic fantastic’ playground has been replaced with a sensational multi function playspace which will satisfy the climbers, the nature lovers, the jumpers, the exercising types and those who love a good swing. The highlight has to be the huge climbing structure which lets kids of all ages (thanks to really well designed safety netting) climb up nice and high and check out the incredible view of all the fancy expensive boats in the marina. They can either climb over the other side or slide down the huge twisty tube slide! Such fun!
There are toilets here too, those high-tech ones that can sometimes scare the little ones (or adults if their little ones decide to push the button mid visit when the parents are not quite ready for the door to fly open….surely that hasn’t just happened to me?). Parking is not heaps easy, with it being paid (only cost us $1 though and we think there might be some free spots if you hunt hard enough) but it is only a short walk across the nice reserve. They also have BBQs, drinking fountains, some shade but we expect it would get quite warm on the hot summer days and there is some seating.
The reserve is beautiful with the lush grassed area. They hold a lot of events in the reserve so if you are planning on using it for a party, perhaps check with council first for any events planned for that day.
The Holdfast Council have done a fantastic job with the upgrade (which only took about 6 months to finish and with a $1 million budget, it seems like great value). The playground caters for a huge range of people and ages and fits in beautifully with the space. This will be a massive fan favourite for years to come and we can’t wait to go back!

Find it at: Baker St Glenelg Situated behind the Broadway hotel in Baker St Glenelg South we love this as a local community playground. Surrounded by some lovely old gum trees, Baddams Green playground has a lovely feel. Each time we rock up to this playground the community have left new toys for the kids to share and play with. Whilst it doesn't offer a huge amount of play equipment it is enough to keep the kids entertained for awhile. The Baddams Green playground features 2 slides, including a curvy for the slightly older kids and a straight one for the littlies, and also has lots of climbing , sliding and balancing pieces to keep the kids busy. There is also a swing set situated near the garden. The garden is a lovely spot for the kids to play in and around featuring some wooden logs and stumps to climb over and on. The playground is FULLY fenced , unfortunately has NO shade or NO toilets. There are a couple of park benches to sit on along with one picnic table. The playground is located one street back from The Broadway so has lots of options for coffee and food.…

Find it at: Whyatt Street, Glenelg East As I rocked up to this playground my first reaction was WOW. This recently upgraded playground is huge and would appeal to a variety of ages. This playground is fully fenced and has lots of different styles of climbing equipment for the kids. The play equipment has enough to keep the big kids and little ones entertained, with the flying fox a real hit here (at least the kids get a decent ride!) The tower and tube slide is perfect for the slightly older kids, but we just love the stunning vibe here, with open space and plenty of greenery to lap up. The reserve also features lots of grass to play on, toilets, basketball court, as well as an undercover BBQ area with tables. Whilst there are quite a few trees around the reserve the only down fall to this wonderful playground is there is NO shade over the equipment. Such a shame. I In need of a coffee Market on Maxwell ( located on Maxwell Tce ) is only a short walk away

Find it at: Moseley Square Glenelg The Glenelg Foreshore Playground is SO good and we have absolutely loved visiting (along with most of Adelaide!) since it opened. With the seasonal addition of the Giant Wheel, from about October to April, it makes for a brilliant day out! It's a great mixture of beach surrounds, fun for young and old kids, and the move towards 'nature play' areas. Highlights include: water play area into the sand, huge metal slide, in-ground mini trampolines, climbing frames, water fountains, grassed areas and nearby cafes!Pro Tip - bring a change of clothes for when the kids inevitably get wet! In terms of practicality, the Glenelg Foreshore Playground offers these key features: Near by toilets Cafes/eateries Beach Shaded spaces Seating for feeding/resting (Ha! Who rests?! No parent I know!) Grassy area Nature play, Water play, Imaginative play Climbing, building, swinging, balancing, sliding
