As we all know, teens and tweens are in that tough spot of wanting to grow up and be adults but also (sometimes secretly) wanting to embrace what is left of their childhood. It can be hard finding activities that they actually WANT to do and aren’t too cool for, right?!

When you’re looking for activities to do with your tweens and teens, you probably want to make sure they tick three key boxes:

  • They aren’t too expensive (so they can bring a friend perhaps)
  • Keep them mentally or physically active (so you can avoid the dreaded, “I’m bored. This sucks.”)
  • Something that is supervised, but where you could still allow them their “independence” while keeping an eye on them!

So here are ten of the best for your kids to enjoy in Adelaide…

  1. Bounce, Marleston and Greenacres
  2. Drop them off for frozen yoghurt or an acai bowl
  3. Treeclimb, Adelaide or Kuipto Forest
  4. Go on a hike or send them mountain biking
  5. Woodhouse Adventure Park
  6. Escape Hunt
  7. Take them shopping
  8. Go see a game at Adelaide Oval
  9. Hanging out at Glenelg
  10. Take them for a round of two of Mini Golf

Read on to find out why we love all of these spots for our independence loving teens and tweens!

Bounce Marleston & Greenacres

Bounce is always going to be a favourite for your tweens and teens. You’ll probably enjoy having a jump too (provided your pelvic floor is up to it that is!).

Choose from Marleston or Greenacres. Teens will also love giving their X-Park ninja course a go!

Keep an eye out for their After Dark events or special ticket offers.

See a game at Adelaide Oval

From footy to cricket, there is always something on at Adelaide Oval to entertain the family! There is nothing better than the atmosphere or a sporting event, so get the kids out to a match and enjoy a day cheering, eating and connecting.

You could also take your kids to do the Kids Trail tour or the Roof Climb to see things from a different perspective!

bushwalking

Bush Walk or Mountain Bike

We have it on good authority (from our teen/tween children) that catching the train to Belair and mountain biking around Blackwood is quite popular with the kids, so if you have a biking fanatic, this is a great option!

Alternatively there are so many amazing bushwalking and hiking trails in Adelaide that would make a fantastic day out. Whether they want to go as a family or head out with friends, there are plenty of options for them to choose from.

Take them Mini Golfing

Make the most of that teenage competitive nature by taking them for a round of mini golf. Let them bring along some friends and spend a few hours coming together in friendly competition.

The whacky courses make it perfect for all ages, so you can go as a family or let the teens do their thing, but it’s guaranteed that everyone will love it!

Take them for a day at Glenelg

Jump on the tram and spend the day at The Bay. They can hang out on the beach (slip, slop, slap!), go jetty jumping, grab lunch at DoughBalls, ride the Giant Wheel in summer or go shopping along Jetty Road. And don’t forget to grab an ice cream!

If they are really responsible you could let them ride the tram there themselves, too!

Escape Hunt

Enter a themed room with your group, solve puzzles, crack codes and work together to solve a mystery and escape the room. A school holiday, after school or weekend activity that both the kids and the adults will get a real kick out of! They also offer outdoor games to solve which will have them racing around Adelaide!

teen shopping trip

Shopping!

It’s a well known fact that teenagers love shopping (especially if it’s your money they’re spending!), so why not take them to Rundle Mall or your closest shopping centre and give them a budget to spend on things they really want!

If they’re old enough and don’t want you hanging about, this is also a great option for a ‘drop and run’ with a few of their friends. Or you can find a seat at a cafe inside and enjoy a nice hot coffee and a book! Sounds like bliss to me.

But with almost 100 international courses to choose from, you can live out your golfing dream playing your fave course. The venue is outstanding. Plenty of room and heaps of TVs with as much sport as you can handle. My tip is bring your own clubs. They have plenty if you don’t have your own, but for any avid golfer…

  • Toddlers are busy, toddlers are fun, when they throw a tantrum you’ll just want to run! Toddlers can be hard work, but can also be SO MUCH fun. Give them the right space and it’s so entertaining (and also very important) to just let them free and watch them learn, experience, climb, run, fall, work out and try again. Finding that safe space can be tricky though and a fully fenced playground, shallow spot for a splash on a hot day, a cafe with a great play corner or a venue that caters for toddler needs is like finding gold in them thar hills. Here’s our top 10 ways to keep your toddlers happy, entertained and having fun in Adelaide
